Wonderful view into Korean culture

I am half Korean and my husband and I bought this for our daughter who is now 4. She has her own hanbok and loves to read about how the little girl puts hers on. It's just another way for me to share part of my culture with her on her level. Her little sister is only 7 months old and I know she will enjoy it too, later. It would be so easy to print a book about the han bok or any part of Korean culture and just print photos or maybe draw a simple cartoon with it. Instead, this author takes the time to truly share the excitement of a little girl and at the same time share the culture. The illustrations are perfection and the information is absolutely correct. That is a rare combination. This is a great book for anyone's library but especially nice for the Korean American family or a family with a Korean adoptee.

The story is beautifully written and the illustrations are so vivid. Highly recommend this book for every little Korean girl.

Beautiful illustrations

I bought this book as a first birthday present for a little girl whose mother is Korean, and couldn't resist buying one for my daughter as well. My 7-year-old really enjoyed looking at the beautiful illustrations and asked her Korean grandmother to buy her the special shoes that go along with the traditional dress which she already owns. I wish I had had books like this growing up!

My favorite illustrated book from my kids' library

The illustrations in this book are beautiful. I love reading this book to my 2.5 year old twins because I enjoy looking at the pictures myself. The story keeps their attention and it is a wonderful book for us to have to read for Lunar New Year, when they will wear their own hanbok.

New Clothes for New Year's Day

How does a little Korean girl welcome a New Year? What does it mean to her? A New Year means a new day, a new morning and the first day for the beginning of everything. The little girl, dressed in a white nightgown, looks out of her window. The front yard landscape is white, covered with snow. She is ready for this new day. Her new set of attire, complete from head to toe, is ready for her to put on. She has been waiting for this moment, long enough to know what she has to do to put the pieces together. All little girls who like to dress up and be fancy would truly enjoy this book. Bae has displayed her specialty in oriental painting. In some pages, she laid out beautiful pastel wallpaper with various prints that highlight each subject very harmoniously. The choice of colors and its contrast is all elaborated to a great detail. In a couple of last pages, Bae also includes reference pages to explain the significance and details of the costume. It is an easy and delightful reading for the young ones at home or in class.
