Page Turner

Fantastic story and one of Follett's best. This and "Pillars of the Earth" are his best in my opinion. You will love this book. It provides some excellent historical fiction.

I saw the movie first and enjoyed it but the book is much richer and very clever and the triangle between the three characters is much more understandable. If you have seen the movie don't pass up the book because it may one of the best of the genre. One the other hand the movie is worth seeing once you've read the book Indeed the contrast and comparison delineates the limits of both media. Plays are easily moved to film but not Dickens. Books will never disappear!

Meh

This book was ultimately boring. Nothing mind-blowing happened and I found it generally unappealing. I'm a huge Ken Follet fan, but this book made me question if it was even the same author that I'd been reading.

Just Too Many Coincidences

Give Ken Follett credit; he really knows his stuff. You can easily imagine yourself in wartime London in this very exciting thriller. The characters are portrayed in a very lifelike way and it is a good read. Unfortunately the plot itself is not remotely credible. It relies on coincidence after coincidence, and everything falls into place just as it must in order for the German spy to be captured. Written early in his career, it's not Follett's best. Still, the book's historic accuracy, particularly in relating the lives of normal British citizens during the war salvages a few stars.

Eye of the Needle

This is a fantastic read which tends to show the versatility of Follet as he deals with a German spy and his relationship with a very resourceful English lady. "Eye of the Needle" is completely believable, and as more current data and information is released which exposes some of the clandestine activities conducted during WWII, one comes to believe almost anything is and was possible.

Follet's talented writing, his character and situation development, will hold you....it is truely a page turner which you don't want to end.
