This book should be required reading for every family court judge, lawyer, and family counselor that works in the divorce industry.
My husband and I are living the nightmare that his ex has created and the courts still don't or won't recognize parental alienation-we aren't even allowed to say the word in court. I just wish we had this book several years ago.

I am a mother of three children. This is the best and most well informed book I have read about this subject! It gave words to what my heart and soul feels!!! I've told my therapist about it and I tell every client of mine that is going through a divorce, or anyone they know in a similar situation, to get this book. It is the Bible of putting children first in any conflicted or possible conflicting divorce.

My daughter planned her wedding, but her fiance called it off the morning of. I didn't find out about anything for weeks, when a distant friend left her condolences on a voice mail - I had no idea what she was talking about. I, and the rest of her maternal family, had been effectively cut off. When I tell the story, others' expressions are absolutely priceless: how horrible a mother could you be, what could you have done, that your own daughter excluded you from her wedding? I see it - I see the questions/judgements behind their eyes. I can't explain it, if I do, then I'm irrationally rationalizing, in denial, defensive. Normal people, in normal families, or 'normal divorces', don't understand. Even my sister, of 4 older girls, would comment how odd it was. But there's nothing I've done, or said to justify the behaviors that have occurred. Well, FINALLY, I downloaded this to my Kindle and listen to/from work. OMG! OMG! I was listening to someone who was a fly on all those walls, all those years. I just wish I had found this book, and it had been written so many years ago. 1 child lost to a bicycle and a car on Mother's Day in 1987, and the remaining 3 lost to the alienation by a very 'sick' man. PAS can start long before divorce by a parent with a plan. I always thought I was the only gas-lighting target. I had no idea how horribly my childeren were used as pawns. The final move has been played, checkmate. He won.

This book achieved my expectations and more! Dr. Warshak was on-point with his theories on the motives behind Parental Alienation Syndrome---jealousy, fear, re-marriage!-- the several ways children can be manipulated in becoming pawns and/or co-conspirators of their abusive parents, and strategies on how to deal with the heartbreak and loss of the relationship as well as how to actively counteract the alienation as it occurs. He even offers suggestions on how to choose an effective therapist or custody lawyer. What an amazing and profound read. Phenomenal!

The book has many examples of the varying degrees (but no less harmful) of Parental Alienation, many of which I could relate to personally. It wasn't full of clinical treatise and legal jargon--it had poignant stories from actual children and families dessimated from the hate campaigns. It is a raw read, very compelling.

It is notable to remark that Dr. Warshak stresses that many of the behaviors of the hatred-obsessed parent are not as clear and outrightly malicious as name-calling or bashing, that some behaviors are subversive and insidious and can be difficult to recognize, even by therapists and custody officials. He goes into specifics on how exaggerations, lies, suggestions, innuendos, subtle gestures, using rigteousness can be vehicles in laying down the groundwork for PAS.

As a targeted mother/stepmother in a blended family, and as a child victim of parental alienation herself, I've witnessed hate campaigns at all angles. It is interesting to note that PAS can be launched toward extended relatives, such as grandparents, step parents, even pets, anyone who is connected with the targeted parent and is seen as his "ally." With education on the subject and the aid of a therapist, I am more confident there are ways to combat PAS, and reverse its lasting effects.

Dr. Warshak is to be commended for his commitment at safeguarding the welfare of children, who are most always unwilling participants to the effects of divorce.

Excellent book

Having read this brilliant piece of literature has opened my eyes. It has really touched my heart and motivated me to become an advocate for my stepson who maybe a victim himself. The book's practicality and common language makes it easy to understand and utilize. I am grateful for Dr. Warshak's work, time, and dedication to this matter. Although I am saddened at how brainwashing and pathological alienation is currently touching my life, this book is inspiration for change and has challenged me to rethink the ways in which I maneuver through this ugliness.

I am deeply appreciative. Dr. Warshak's insight and expertise in this area is amazing. We, as a group of parents fighting for our children, are lucky to have him as a beacon of light and inspiration. Thank you.
