Great book!

I looked at many books before purchasing this book and two others to prepare for my new puppy. This book is very thorough, covering everything from how to choose a puppy to puppyhood to adulthood. It dives into the canine mind so you better understand care and training. It teaches traditional correction training methods that are humane.

I recommend pairing this book with When Pigs Fly by Jane Killion. Good Owners, Great Dogs will give you all the basics and the traditional view on training, and When Pigs Fly will give you a different perspective on training. I feel the combination is very valuable. Do not worry if you don't have a terrier breed, When Pigs Fly applies to all dogs.

Phenomenal book

I have owned and referred this book so many times. It is the bible of dog ownership to me. Caesar Milan has nothing on these authors. I can't think of a better book for training yourself to be a fabulous owner to your pet.

This is one of the best books on dog training I've come across. It not only gives sound advice on how to train your best friend, but also has a detailed "questions and answers" section that gives you an immediate and specific answer to your problem. I warmly recommend it to any future dog owner and also those who already have a dog. Best bought before the acquisition of the dog, as it gives valuable advice on how to make the best choice.
