Great Book for Sport Lovers
I loved this book because I love Michigan and football. In the book Bo Schembichler talks about how he
coach
ed for many different teams and his experiences. If you like sports (especially football) you should read this book because that is what he talks about during the whole book. One thing I will remember forever is how he says he never plays favorites and never will because that is one of the issues in sports. I think everyone could learn at least five things that would help them in life from reading this book. I give it 5 stars.
Excellent Coaching Resource
This is my absolute favorite
coach
ing book. As a high school coach, this book is filled with great stories that illustrate Bo's points. Whether you are a coach or a businessman, or in any type of
leadership
position this is a great resource. If you are football fan, you will find the stories Bo shares interesting and fun to read. It is the best book written by a coach that I have read to date.

Breaking it Down
For anyone who loves Michigan and Michigan football, this book will be a welcome reminder of some great years (and a couple not-so-great). For anyone who has listened to Bo speak (and with YouTube, I guess that can be all of us), you will hear his voice in these words. And for anyone in a position to be a leader or to work with a team of individuals attempting to achieve something of value, reading this is going to make you smile (and probably pump you up a bit).
This book is what I imagine Bo was like: simple and straightforward in it's delivery but profound in what it attempts to teach. We've heard some of these things before: Do the right thing, Do it for the right reasons, Do it for the team; but Bo has a way of using examples from his own experience that provide unique perspective. And his expectations never wavered, not for himself or for any of his players. I love the story about calling a former player at 5pm on Friday and then admonishing him for leaving early to beat traffic to the shore (you're not one of THOSE guys!).
And finally, the remembrances from the former players are terrific, a real confirmation that Bo walked the talk his whole life. I'm sure a lot of those guys hated him when they were 18 or 19 and getting their butts handed to them on a daily basis, but I bet you couldn't find a single player today who doesn't look back and recognize that Bo knew they had more to give than they ever realized, and helped them understand what it takes to be a champion.
This is good stuff!

Lasting Impressions
Very enjoyable read. Especially relevant for someone nearing a milestone in their career. Many people can benefit from Bo's word or at least enjoy his anecdotes.
I had to hold back some tears near the end. (Especially about what Kenny Root wrote in the Reflections chapter). What a great man. My favorite line is in the introduction, "Bo insulted you to your face... and praised you behind your back." He seemed to be a on-of-a-kind, which I'm sure he'd say is a sad thing in this day and age.
I have grown up a big Cal Golden Bears fan (suffering through many, many terrible years), then attended grad school in the height of Pete Carroll's career at USC. And although still a Pac-10 fan, I now have a greater sense of the foundation and history that built Michigan's football program than even my own alma mater.

a must-have for a Michigan fan
This is one of my favorite books - the best. A must-have for a Wolverine fan!!!
During his record-setting tenure as
coach
of the Michigan Wolverines, Bo won thirteen Big Ten titles and finished as the winningest football coach in the school's storied history. But if you asked him, his most important achievement was having a remarkably positive impact on the hundreds of athletes he coached. In these pages, you'll hear Bo's distinctive voice as he shares the principles he applied on the football field and in the locker room to create a football dynasty, and he'll tell you how you can apply his insights to any
leadership
role. His words will educate, motivate, and inspire-just as the man himself did every day.
