Simple, straightforward

I bought this for my friend who likes straightforward, uncomplicated crocheting. I think that the patterns in it are mostly simply designed and easily followed. This isn't a bad thing. Sometimes we don't want to crochet every night for a year on ONE project! Probably anyone's going to have yarn that would be workable for most of the patterns. There's a fast-to-make raglan-style sweater in here and a cute peacoat, a bulky yarn vest that could probably be made in a weekend, and you could whip out many holiday gifts just using the basic tocque (Canadians say "tuke") or scarf patterns.

It could be better

Well, I bought this book for the peacoat pattern. It was worth the price just for that. The other patterns aren't worthy of being in a book. Check this out at the library.

Wonderfully helpful

It's easy to read and understand and great use for reference. I've had some experience with crochet (though not a whole lot) so I don't know what it'll be like for a complete beginner, but I suspect it'll be rather helpful and easy as it was for me. I haven't made any of the projects in the book yet but I love them by seeing them, since they are trendy and appear somewhat uncomplicated enough to start with.

Very helpful book

I really liked this book. I found the introductory chapters very interesting and complete, and the patterns were easy to follow. (I'm half through the "too good for your boyfriend" sweater, and am having no problems with the pattern.) This is unlike some other books ("Everyday Crochet" for example) where I found the patterns completely incomprehensible. The only reason I gave it 4 stars, rather than 5, is that I don't really like most of the designs and probably won't make many of them.
