Great Book on Investment Banking

Josh:

Recently, I purchased your book "Investment Banking" and have enjoyed reading it so far. I am a 6+ year commercial/operations business professional with a Fortune 20 firm seeking to move into the BD/M&A function either within or outside of the current firm. The content you all have layed out is very detailed and beneficial, similar to the in-person training completed last year in the intensive valuation/modeling program run by the Investment Banking Institute.

Thanks for creating this guidebook to Invesment Banking. Look forward to reading further.

Best wishes,
Andrew

Great book to understand how valuation is done in the real world

The materials covered in the book gives a good insight on how valuations are done in the real M&A world. The excel models provided are handy, and provide a useful framework for people interested to learn more about i-banking but know not where to start.

Making My Small Business a World-Class Enterprise

In my line of business, if you don't come correct, there can be some grave consequences. One false move, and let's just say your career is over. "Investment Banking: Valuation, Leveraged Buyouts, and Mergers and Acquisitions" has helped me manage a successful enterprise in an unpredictable industry.

By mastering the principles in this book, I've learned to: 1) rebrand my organization to disguise an inferior product (alla WorldCom), 2) wait out slow quarters now that I understand that even my market is inelastic, 3) form new business entities and funnel funds back and forth between them, and most importantly, 4) understand the deeper value of embracing "coopetition" with potential rivals.

This book also showed me how to fund the Clay Davises of my city's political scene and negotiate lucrative government deals thereby flipping the public sector's potential pitfalls on its head.

Moreover, mastering the tenets of business has given me a leg up on my peers and competitors who are prone to old ways of "street corner" thinking. With "Investment Banking," coupled with a rudimentary community college business class, my corner business has grown into an enormous thriving endeavor that navigates complex commercial, industrial and political hazards every day.

Great book, but some flaws in Kindle version

The book is recommended and you will easily find enough reviews for this book.

A note to be added is the resolution of Kindle book. I notice it is a general problem of all Kindle book that when the contents come with a big chart or table, most of them can be hardly read as the resolution is not enough for zooming in. I tried it on my iPad and laptop, and I am sure it is not the problem of my screen resolution.

In addition, it will be great if the charts and tables in Kindle books are allowed to be rotated.

Amazon, please fix it. Otherwise, most of these books are useless as the charts and tables inside are the crucial part of the content.

In the constantly evolving world of finance, a solid technical foundation is an essential tool for success. Due to the fast-paced nature of this world, however, no one has been able to take the time to properly codify the lifeblood of the corporate financier?s work?namely, valuation. Rosenbaum and Pearl have responded to this need by writing the book that they wish had existed when they were trying to break into Wall Street.

Investment Banking: Valuation, Leveraged Buyouts, and Mergers & Acquisitions is a highly accessible and authoritative book that focuses on the primary valuation methodologies currently used on Wall Street?comparable companies, precedent transactions, DCF, and LBO analysis. These methodologies are used to determine valuation for public and private companies within the context of M&A transactions, LBOs, IPOs, restructurings, and investment decisions. Using a step-by-step how-to approach for each methodology, the authors build a chronological knowledge base and define key terms, financial concepts, and processes throughout the book. They also provide a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of LBOs and an organized M&A sale process.

In the aftermath of the subprime mortgage crisis and ensuing credit crunch, the world of finance is returning to the fundamentals of valuation and critical due diligence. This involves the use of more realistic assumptions governing approach to risk as well as a wide range of value drivers. While valuation has always involved a great deal of ?art? in addition to time-tested ?science,? the artistry is perpetually evolving in accordance with market developments and conditions. In this sense, this book is particularly topical?in addition to detailing the technical fundamentals behind valuation, the authors infuse practical judgment skills and perspective to help guide the science.
