Good tips. A bit repetitive.

I enjoyed the book. It's an easy read. It has some good insights as to what you should do to start saving money. It lays out obvious things people do trying to act rich while really not being rich at all. One problem the book has is that as you read the chapters the premise is exactly the same. Just different situations. But at the end of the day, it basically says, live frugal and save. A car is a car. A watch is a watch. Don't get caught up in the unnecessary and make smart purchases.

This should be required reading for everyone!

Dr. Stanley really does a good job in differentiating between the wealthy and the not so wealthy (actors). Prior to reading the "Millionaire Next Door", I was at risk of falling prey to the same high consumption lifestyle. Prior to reading the "Millionaire Next Door" and "Stop Acting Rich" my biggest goal was to reach an income level in excess of 6 figures in order to buy the status items so I could appear to be well off in front of my family and friends. God put these books in my life for a reason and I now know better. I am content with driving my 3 year old Hyundai Sonata, living in my modest home, and working towards accumulating REAL wealth and not superficial material items.

I think that this book should be required reading for all college seniors and even graduate students who have not entered the labor market. Also, not to be offensive because I am Black American, but honestly, I think that the Black Community needs to sit down, take the time and read what Dr. Stanley has to say and maybe this will curtail some of the foolish spending that Black Americans get caught up in all in the name of image.

Finally, the only downside to this book is that is very repetitive and Dr. Stanley talks about wine and gray-goose vodka alot in this book when giving examples.

good message, a bit repetitive

Dr. Stanley pounds an important message - don't substitute the badges of wealth for wealth itself. I would rate the book a little lower except that his message is so important. He offers a few insights here and there, for example the strong correlation between the number of activities an individual participates in versus net wealth (not income). He has a neat way of chopping down snobs. For example, he mentions "silly wine talk." He's had a pretty good run on this topic. So at this point, he should try to find some new insights from all the data he has amassed. People who get caught up in "badges" are not necessarily bad people; there are complex psychological factors involved. I'd like to see more content there. But overall, good read. It's Just This Simple

Rich people (those with at least $1 Million of invested assets, love what they do, and go for value rather than to impress. Unless, they grew up poor. Then, they might spend a little extra on status symbols to make up for not having a nice warm I have stuff and security feeling earlier in life. Great read. A little too much time spent on what brands of vodka we should or could drink.

A leading expert on the affluent reveals the real way to build wealth

With well over two million of his books sold, and huge praise from many media outlets, Dr. Thomas J. Stanley is a recognized and highly respected authority on the wealthy, their behavior, and their thinking. Now, in Stop Acting Rich, he details how the less affluent have fallen into the elite luxury brand trap that keeps them from truly acquiring wealth and details how to get out of it by emulating the working rich as opposed to the super elite.

A defensive strategy for tough times, Stop Acting Rich will show you how to live like Warren Buffett-a rich, happy life-through accumulating more wealth and using it to achieve the type of financial freedom that will create true happiness and fulfillment. Puts wealth in perspective and shows you how to live rich without spending more Details why we spend lavishly and how to stop this destructive cycle Discusses how being "rich" means more than just big houses and luxury cars Other titles by Stanley: The Millionaire Mind and The Millionaire Next Door

It's time to understand why we buy what we buy, so that we can start accumulating, rather than depleting, wealth. Stop Acting Rich shows you exactly what it takes to achieve this elusive goal.
