A solution that works!!!

My son had never slept through the night. He would sleep for 3-4 hours and be up for another 3-4 hours. My husband and I were exhausted and willing to try most anything. We weren't comfortable with a full-on cry it out method so, through a suggestion from Askville, we found the Sleep Easy Solution. It takes some time to read through the book (especially if you are sleep deprived), but SO worth it. We tried the methods suggested in the book and within 10 days, our son was sleeping through the night and taking regular naps.
Unlike many of the other books we read on the subject, this method works birth to 5, just as the title suggests. Our son was 15 months old when we tried the method and it worked like a charm. I would recommend to any parent whose child is struggling with sleeping through the night!!!
What a life saver!!!

The BEST of the sleep "training" books!!

I've read SIX other recommended books on sleep training and this one is hands down the best!!!! It covers many, many topics that the others don't and addresses the emotions that both parents and children experience in the process. In so many of the other books, there are several missing pieces of the puzzle but THIS book covers all, and I do mean ALL of them! There hasn't been a question yet that I didn't find answered in this book. The chapter on naps has saved my sanity!

Yes, this is a CIO method, but even if you are philosophically opposed to it, the book does present some alternative techniques, in addition to co-sleeping tips. There are too many great tips in this book to overlook it simply because it is mainly a CIO method.

The methods can be easily adapted with lots of detailed instruction to any child from 4 months to age 5. It does a great job of explaining why babies younger than 4 months are incapable of soothing themselves to sleep. I used a lot of the advice in the book to prepare my baby for full-on sleep training while waiting for him to turn 4 months old, like easing away from some of the sleep associations he had developed.

My first child was 18 months before I finally learned to help her soothe herself to sleep, but I was able to train my second child at four months very quickly by following this book very closely.

The only thing I would change about the book is the way the information is organized. I had several pages in several different chapters earmarked and I had to keep flipping back and forth to get the full picture of how to put everything together. I do appreciate that the authors don't go overboard with sleep science explanations and graphs that are just distracting. They give just enough information to demonstrate their knowledge of sleep research.

I am recommending this book to all my Mommy friends!!

Sleep Problems Solved!

This book solved our 5 month old baby's napping problems. Until we read this book, we could not get our baby to take naps of more than 20 to 30 minutes. She slept fairly well at night with one feeding at around 3 a.m., but she simply was not getting enough total sleep. This book helped tremendously by teaching us WHEN to put the baby down for sleep. It did take some crying, but I truly believe it was okay, because the baby now likes going in for naps and going to bed. She goes to bed at night without a peep, and she only mildly protests for a few mintues before her naps. Her naps now last 1-2 hours and she takes at least 2 per day. Sometimes she even goes down for naps without so much as a whimper. She is now getting all the sleep she needs -- 11 hours per night with no breaks, and 2-3 hours per day of napping. What a relief! The doctor will be happy and we are definitely happy at home. The baby is peacefully napping as I write this review.

This book changed our lives!

At about nine months of age my daughter was still waking up crying 2-3 times during the night. My husband would go upstairs and "binky" her, and she would fall back to sleep. Not the worst of scenarios, but our sleep (as well as hers) was disrupted. After reading this book we learned a few things that we weren't doing, such as having a bedtime routine (in the room where she would be sleeping) and putting our daughter in her crib awake. It took us a couple of nights of a tiny bit of crying, but she hasn't needed to be "binky'd" since! She is able to fall asleep on her own, soothe herself back to sleep during the night, and has been sleeping 11-12 hours straight ever since. She will be two next month! I also recommend "The Happiest Baby on the Block" for babies 0-3 months.

It worked for us!

I've read all of the most popular sleep solution books out there. THE SLEEPEASY SOLUTION is the best. It has all the information you need to know about babies' sleep habits and needs, and the guidance it presents in regard to addressing them is clearly presented and easy to follow. Some of the other books I read had the same information, but the writing wasn't as clear or as organized as THE SLEEPEASY SOLUTION, and it left me more confused than anything (I'm thinking specifically here of the Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child book, which could really use a work over with a good editor!)

The steps for the sleep learning program are clearly presented (a plus for exhausted parents), and they worked for us. My son was transformed from a baby who would only fall asleep at my breast, to a sleeping champ who I can put down in his crib smiling and awake, and he sucks his thumb, holds his lovey and falls asleep on his own within about 10 minutes. The first night of sleep learning was the only night that was a little tough, but he did just fine, and by the end of a week my son was sleeping well and falling asleep on his own without complaint. Consistency, as the book says, is key.

In addition to the book, I own the DVD, which consolidates the key information from the book and is also a useful product. I found it helpful to watch actual examples of the training so that I would be more emotionally prepared. I really liked the little booklet that came with the DVD and still refer to the sleep needs and nap timing broken down by age.

I also did a sleep consultation and follow-up with Jennifer Waldburger, one of the authors and co-founders of sleepyplanet.com. It was the best money I've spent this year. She helped guide me, day by day, though the timing of the naps in order to get the best results, and it helped me feel much more confident though the process. The information regarding sleep consultations is on the website, and I highly recommend the service.

I'll wrap this up by stating that I was a mom who was originally reluctant to try a method of sleep learning that involved crying. I tried some of the suggestions in the No Cry Sleep Solution book, but they didn't work for us. Now that we have done THE SLEEPEASY SOLUTION, my son is better rested, happier, and seems more peaceful.

Two experts who are helping Hollywood's A-list babies get their zzz's share the no-fail, family-friendly method that has helped thousands of sleep-deprived moms and dads.

Even Hollywood's biggest stars face the same dilemma as other parents do: "How do I get my child to sleep?" As parents in the know are finding, whether they're on the red carpet or the soccer field, the answer is the same: The Sleepeasy Solution.

Psychotherapists and sleep specialists Jennifer and Jill, the dynamic "girlfriends" all of Hollywood calls on to solve Junior's sleep problems, have perfected their sleep technique that will get any child snoozing in no time?most often in fewer than three nights. The key to their method? It addresses the emotional needs of both the parent and child (yes, how to handle the crying!)?a critical component of why most other sleep methods fail.

In this much-needed, family-friendly guide, weary parents will learn to define their own individual sleep goals, those that work for their family?s schedule and style. They'll create a customized "sleep planner" to ensure consistency with both parents as well as extended caregivers. (As an added bonus, they'll even improve the readers' relationships with their spouses with the "marriage-saver" section.) With comprehensive sections devoted to each stage of Baby's and Toddler's development, plus solutions to special circumstances like traveling, daylight saving's time, moving to a "big kid bed" and multiples, The Sleepeasy Solution is a dream come true!

"This approach was truly amazing in helping our family to thrive. . . . We are eternally grateful!"
