Mattimeo
Mattimeo
One of the worst fears a child loving parent can have is fear of losing a child. Whether by death, kidnapping or any other means of loss, it is still a huge fear. In the book, Mattimeo by Brian Jacques, that fear becomes a reality for Matthias, the warrior mouse of
Redwall
abbey, when his young son Mattimeo is abducted by Slagar the Cruel, a masked fox in the business of slave driving.
The story starts out like most abduction stories, a peaceful environment disrupted by something treacherous. In this case the peace loving creatures of Redwall abbey are having their summer equinox festival when the fox shows up with his band of slave drivers and abducts Mattimeo and his friends. Throughout the book, the characters travel from the western plains all the way south to the underground kingdom of Malkariss and I think the fact that the book takes place in so many different locations just makes it all the more better.
In a way, the book would seem very boring to a person who had not read it but had heard a description of it. But none the less, Brian Jacque's use of detail is not in the least boring but actually quite exciting and as Basil Stag Hare would say: " it's good enough for a celebration, wot." This leads me to think he is even more of a master writer than people give him credit for. I say this because only a few writers can make a whole long chapter about a chef making the food for the summer feast. It is so exiting that you will feel like you are actually in the book screaming along with Mattimeo and his friend: "Yay we get to role the cheeses." I also think he is the only writer I know of that can put heaps of detail into it and still make it a page turner. Another part of the book that really grabs attention are the fight scenes. These wars are packed with tons of action that really makes the readers wonder if the characters they are reading about are the same peaceful woodlanders they had read about in the other chapters. All in all I think that Brian Jacques is one of the best writers/storytellers I have read a book by because of the intriguing detail and his ability to surprise you with every page. I also highly recommend reading the other
books
in the Redwall series.

My favorite part of the book is when the kids get kidnapped because it is a thrilling and mystical moments that sets up the whole book that is why it is my favorite part.
The most important thing I learned from this book is to not trust strangers and to be on alarm.
Other
books
by this author are the legend of luck, Merilaell of redwall and Salamandastor are just a few of his books.

The Fight for the Children
Mattimeo
is super THRLLING with an AWESOME adventure!!!
Mattimeo is the son of
Redwall
's champion until a dirty, no good fox kidnaps the little folk of The Redwall Abbey. They sent a search team out to find them. There are a few battles along the way. Also, they meet a few old friends (and evil enemies) on the journey.
This the best book I have ever read because it kept my eyes glued to the book with every twist and turn. It was a "one step ahead of you" kind of book between the search team, the dirty fox and the slaves. At the same time, Redwall is in a bit of a crisis. I love it because it takes your mind to a whole different world, and I hope you LOVE it too!!!

Mattimeo
Mattimeo
is an excellent story full of war, betrayal, trickery, and revenge. It is set in
Redwall
, a huge stone abbey, and Mossflower Country, which is a vast expanse of woods, mountains, lakes, plains, and dry-lands. The tale of Mattimeo starts off at Redwall, where many different types of creatures live, including otters, hares, voles, moles, and badgers. The great Redwall champion, Matthias, and his son, Mattimeo, are taking part in a huge autumn festival which is held every year. When Slagar the Cruel arrives with his group of slavers pretending to be a group of entertainers, things start to go amiss. That night, Slagar creeps off with Mattimeo and all of his childhood friends. Slagar had only one reason to do this. Several seasons back, Matthias had destroyed half of Slagar's face in a war, leaving him with only his eye alive. Now Slagar had come back for revenge. Shortly after Slagar kidnapped the abbey children, Matthias, Jess Squirrel, and his faithful friend Basil Stag Hare set off in pursuit. While following Slagar, Matthias meets Orlando the Axe, who has also lost a child to Slagar, so they join forces to set evil to good. Eventually Matthias and Orlando are tricked into a cave by Slagar, who sets off a land slide that traps them in. Fortunately, the Guosim (Guerrilla Union of Shews in Mossflower) tunnel into the cave and saves Matthias and Co, just as they were starting to suffocate. After hair-raising adventure after hair-raising adventure, Matthias follows Slagar to the underworld kingdom of Malkriss. Matthias and Orlando invade the underground fortress, saves the children, and destroys Malkriss's empire completely. With Slagar dead and the capital of slavery in ruins, Matthias returns home to his beloved Redwall, where he is met by his wife and all of the abbey creatures warmly, with open hearts and gratitude.
