Great Illustrations

Bought this for my son. Easy for him to understand... Can't wait to see the rest.

Alternate Visual Perspective

Although I have every Twilight Novel, I thought this would be a great edition. I didn't start reading the novels until after the first movie, so the voices and images of the characters when I read the novels were that of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. It was interesting to have another visual perspective.

Great Graphic Novel

This a great graphic novel of twilight. The artwork is superior to many graphic art books on the market today. I will definitely buy the remaining volumes when they become available. If you are a fan of twilight or a graphic novel collector, like myself this is a must have.

Twilight: The Graphic Novel

I thought Twilight: The Graphic Novel was ok. The drawings were exceptional and you could really picture the characters but first: I did'nt realize you were only buying half a novel and second the clothing choices for some of the characters made me mad because it did'nt portray the characters.

Better Than the Book

"Twilight" seems to be one of those things that people either love or loathe. Before DragonCon 2008, I hadn't even heard of it. And I must confess to being something of a vampire snob, having been spoiled 20 years ago by the original benevolent vampire in Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's "Saint-Germain" series. Ms. Yarbro was actually a guest speaker at that DragonCon. I always thought she's been unfairly overshadowed by the more lurid Anne Rice.

So when "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" came along, I thought nothing could possibly top the ever-elegant and romantic Saint-Germain. But my interest was piqued by Entertainment Weekly's regular coverage of it, and I had to admit that Sarah Michelle Gellar was (and is) a true hottie. When I finally began catching up with the Buffy/Angel series on DVD, I was instantly hooked.

After "Buffy" and "Angel" were canceled, "Twilight" stepped into the void so vampire addicts could get their fix. Again, I resisted being seduced, believing that anything else must be a pale shadow of the characters I already loved. So I never saw the movies in spite of Entertainment Weekly's coverage.

But when my website designer began urging me to write fan fiction, I figured I'd better familiarize myself with the characters I'd be writing about. So I finally capitulated and bought the first book.

And I immediately understood why so many people thought it was the stupidest thing they'd ever read. The vampire Edward seemed too good to be true. Bella wasn't exactly the most positive of role models, being too excessively dependent on her "man" for her sense of well-being. Such a heavy concentration of vampires in a single place seemed too untenable for the "food supply" to be realistic (Yarbro has always been meticulous about details like that). And Stephanie Meyer's prose was the deepest of purple.

And yet. The lure of forbidden-fruit romance proved irresistible. I found myself wanting Bella to get her happily-ever-after. Jacob and Alice quickly became my favorite characters. It wasn't long before I'd devoured all four un-put-down-able novels, inexorably drawn-in by wanting to find out what would be the consequences of a vampire getting a human girl pregnant, and Bella finally developing some true strength.

Still haven't seen the movies. I wanted first to see how a graphic novel artist would handle the material, since Meyer herself said that Young Kim drew the characters as she herself had imagined them.

Rejoice! The artwork and layout are exquisitely beautiful. The story actually plays BETTER as a graphic novel. Freed from the overwrought prose over-describing everything, the graphic novel can SHOW you, not TELL you.

Only two things keep me from giving it the full 5 stars. Jacob looks a little too generic. I hope that when Young Kim gets to drawing "New Moon," she will develop real character-lines as he matures into the full werewolf. Kim would do well to study the work of Wendy Pini ("Elfquest") to figure out how. Also, the sparkly-skin sequence falls flat in this medium. Maybe by the time Edward attempts to expose himself in Italy, Kim will master that look. Again, Wendy Pini is the artist to study; her "Masque of the Red Death" shows how do do REAL luminosity.

When Isabella Swan moves to the gloomy town of Forks and meets the mysterious, alluring Edward Cullen, her life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. With his porcelain skin, golden eyes, mesmerizing voice, and supernatural gifts, Edward is both irresistible and impenetrable. Up until now, he has managed to keep his true identity hidden, but Bella is determined to uncover his dark secret...

Beautifully rendered, this first installment of Twilight: The Graphic Novel is a must-have for any collector?s library.
