Find the truth and the love in God's Word

J. Sidlow Baxter begins this impressive Bible study with illuminating facts about the Bible itself. In a time when so many question its authority and call many parts of it into question Mr. Baxter presents evidence of the Bible's divine inspiration and shows the Master's hand in the beauty and perfection of its writing and order. The wonderful thing about this book is that it requires you to read the scripture and then explains it clearly showing what was plainly there in the text all along. I read the book of Job the first time and found it a work of obscurity. After reading what "Explore the Book" had to say explaining the book and the relationships between God, the devil, Job's friends, Job's wife and Job I understood it for the first time. It has now become my favorite book of the bible and it has changed my life. I understand who God is and what He expects of me more clearly than ever before. I saw J. Sidlow Baxter speak at Calvary Temple in Denver many years ago and it is always immediately clear from his speech and his writing that he has a close personal relationship with God. His love for God is obviously the motivation for his teaching and it's contagious. Buy this book for yourself and your family and don't let it collect dust on your bookshelf. It can make the Bible and the master theme within a personal reality that will bless you and change your heart.

excellent bible study resource

Baxter's "Explore the Book" is one of the most excellent surveys of scripture available. Dr. Baxter's comments are warm, devotional, and practical. However, his suggestion of a possible mid-tribulational rapture (instead of pre-tribulational) concerns me, as does his hyper-dispensational view that Israel was offered the Kingdom a second time in the book of Acts. The Bible clearly teaches that Israel will not receive the Kingdom until the glorious appearing of Jesus Christ and the establishment of his literal, physical Millenial Reign at the end of the Great Tribulation period. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone desiring a deeper understanding of the Bible.

One to GROW With!

I had the great pleasure to actually hear Dr. Baxter preach. It was an amazing experience and set in motion a lifelong love of the Word and a desire to "explore the Book" into deeper and deeper regions of blessing, understanding, and insight. Dr. Baxter's exposition on the Word captures that same intense passion, care, and ability to make clear the meatiest of Scripture passages. As a survey, there is no finer volume anywhere - IMHO. I have used his book for years. And, even though I now have a complete online library and Bible research software, I find "in the moment" I reach for Dr. Baxter's book first. It grounds me, frames and sets context, and presents a wonderful standard against which to compare the writings of others.

You will be blessed, eddified, and will find yourself more than once touched by the Spirit of God and the spirit of Dr. Baxter as they - together - serve as your guides as you explore the Book!

Sidlow Baxter's Explore the Book

It is a good middle ground commentary between the in dept work of J.V. McGee's Thru the Bible and R. Stedman's Adventuring Through the Bible. Baxter analyzes the structure and special features of every book, gives a brief outline of the main points, and shares references for further study. Well worth the money to own this book.

This six volume in one edition gives a book by book overview of each book of the Bible in three aspects: an analysis of the structure of each book, a synopsis of the main movements in each book, and the special features of each with suggestions for further study.
