Messy Spirituality: God's Annoying Love for Imperfect People
OK, so... I am a college student! My name is Jimmy. I have been in church my entire life and it is no secret that the church has secrets! In this book, Mess
Spirituality
, Michael Yaconelli challenges the reader to consider our imperfections opportunities to grow spiritually! I have been in many churches and have come to the realization that Christians, like everyone else, have problems, and often try to hide them from others. So, I have read all but the last Chapter so far! I plan to finish this book today or tomorrow. I rarely read; in fact, this will be my second book of "considerable length" to have read in my life! I hate reading! I found this book very interesting and a challenge to my ideas of faith. How I came across this book is an important note to consider about my mindset approaching the book. I am a college student who has been at church probably every Sunday of my life. In the past year or so, I have been challenged to question my faith. If you don't know yet, college will do that! In my questioning, I still conclude that the story of Jesus and creation and forgiveness and grace is the absolute best explanation I have heard. So, I was frustrated with the war between my imperfect nature and my desire to have a closer relationship with my creator. This inward battle would not settle, so I sought answers. I sent out an e-mail to several people that I knew to explain my frustration as best as I could. I received a few responses. One response that stood out to me most was from an old friend from High School. This friend recommended me to read this book, that "in some ways speaks to these thoughts and feelings." I figured that it wouldn't hurt to look it up online. So I typed in the title and author in the search engine and one of the first things that appeared on the list of recommended sites was Amazon.com. I have never bought anything online before this with my own card, but I decided to make the purchase. So, I received it and began reading it. This is an amazing book! A few minutes ago I looked up some information online and found that the author died in a wreck at age 61. I am convinced that this man has made a great impact, for the better, on the world. This book will challenge any reader! I welcome challenge, because I understand that trusting my own understanding will not fulfill God's recommendation! "Lean not on your own understanding!" So, I will leave you with my e-mail address so that you can inquire about anything you want. I still have one chapter to go! My e-mail address is Workerdude88@aol.com and my name is Jimmy! God Bless You All! - Jimmy

Still Excellent
Mike speaks openly and honestly, giving voice to many thoughts and feelings of Christians who couldn't quite express themselves. This is an excellent book for starting conversations in churches and small groups. I've used it several times with my youth team as well. Groups express a freedom and a sigh of relief after reading it as it conquers the myths of a perfect

Spiritually entertaining!
Its been a long time since I've read a book that made me laugh and cry at the same time. Yaconelli's
Messy
Spirituality
proved to be a warm and cozy
blanket in the seemingly confused realm of religion that can leave many cold in its wake. While I've personally subscribed to much of what was written, it was wonderful to have it put into the perspective that Yaconelli did in this wonderful book. The descriptive nature allows everyone to see themselves with unvarnished truth; but loving grace. Easy to read, poignant in its message and recommended for everyone. If you allow your religious dogma to be suspended while you read this wonderful work you will find yourself feeling much better about yourself and life after. That alone is worth the price of the book. Sadly, for us that remain in the human realm of existence, we don't have Mr. Yaconelli to provide us with further loving works as this book. However, I'm sure that those who do read the book will be inspired to further this man's legacy.

me messy?
you bet! this book was so meaningful to me I have bought a dozen and might buy more and given them to friends and family. I wish Mr Yaconelli were still alive, I would have liked to met him.
What!? You're not perfect? That's all right, God loves you anyway. He even loves the author of this book, and he's really a mess. There is a
spirituality
for people who often don't feel very spiritual and it will bring you closer to God. Find it in this book.
