WHIRLWIND READ
I just finished this book and I loved it. At first I disliked Isabel for initiating the affair with Patrick while her seemingly sweet husband was clueless about it.
The portion of the affair is written in a fast, tantalizing pace. By the end of the book, you look at Isabel, Patrick and Neil in a totally different light. What will Isabel do? Find out and read the book!
Great Read
This book is now one of my favorites, it is very real and you can't seem to put it down. The twist toward the end is great, and you can't help but smile at the end of the book. It is very easy to put yourself in Isabel's place, and you just want to see her happy. This is a great book and I recomend it to everyone...especially wives and stay-at-home moms.

Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool
I liked the character of Isabel - she came across as very real and "normal." She very easily gets sucked into an affair with her cranky but apparently charismatic "boss." The author describes the rush of excitement from the affair very well. The reader sees a progression from lust, to the attachment, the habit-forming addiction of her affair with this man, and then her misgivings that start to build and culminate with a near-miss tragedy concerning her young son.
The last part of the story Isabel becomes more brave and tries to get a handle on her life after her affair becomes public knowledge. She grows and matures, and becomes realistic in her attitude toward her life. She examines whether or not she really loves her lover. And whether or not she ever really loved her husband. She makes difficult decisions, but in the end she is a real adult woman.
The book was very readable, and I felt sympathy for Isabel and her wooden marriage. The only thing I didn't care for was an underlying message that said Isabel was better for having the affair; that without it her life wouldn't have been her own, she wouldn't have made independent choices, etc. She could have "found" herself without being unfaithful to her husband, regardless of his true character.

Isabel and Neil are old marrieds. Suburban old marrieds, at that. While the routine that?s as comfortable as an old shoe seems to suit Neil just fine, Isabel?professional wife and mother and one the nicest women in the line at school pick-up--is restless. Tired of being just ?Neil?s wife? or ?Michael?s mommy?, she takes a part-time job working for the disorganized but devastatingly attractive Patrick, only to find herself drawn to him. Despite telling herself to think of her husband and children, Isabel finds herself doing the unthinkable, and plunging into a world of conflicting loyalties, desires and responsibilities.
