I love this book.

This is a great book. First of all, it's written in a conversational style that's easy to read. Second, I love its focus on the importance of one's own feelings when getting a dog to obey. I was actually able to get my two German Shepherds to sit and wait while I dished up their food after reading it. Getting them to not jump up on guests will take a little longer, but there's advice in the book about that as well. If I have trouble, I know I can use the book's unique feature and get one-on-one guidance via her website. That's a real plus. Thanks Julie! Great Book

This is a great book for anyone looking to own a dog. Everyone should get a copy with their first dog, it would make the world a better place for everyone. Recently I was dogsitting a friends incredibly annoying dog. Using some of the techniques from this book, he managed to go from incredibly annoying to tolerable in only a week!

Insightful

I received this book and even though I do not have a young dog, it is very helpful. I have two dogs, one 12 years old and the other 8 years old. This book gave me a better understanding on how they act and do the things they do. Even though my dogs are older I was able to use the information in this book to gain an even better relationship with my dogs. Julie writes in a very "down to earth" manner that doesn't make training your dog seem overwhelming. When the time comes that we get another dog, I am going to use Julie's book. It will make having a puppy fun. Thank you Julie for sharing your insight and knowledge of training dogs with us. I highly recommend this book to anyone who owns a dog, young or old.

Excellent resource with step-by-step instructions, individual professional guidance, and practical real-life examples

Despite being an owner of several dogs over the years and having a background in behavior modification principles, I found this book to be an excellent tool for guiding even the most seasoned dog owners through challenging situations. I particularly appreciated the attention paid to the importance of consistency in training, understanding and adhering to the needs of our dogs, establishing and maintaining clear signals and commands, and managing our own behaviors and nonverbal communication in order to promote having happy, healthy, well-behaved dogs. Other reviewers have already offered comprehensive and thoughtful reviews. I agreed with all of their positive praise about this resource that is well-written, authoritative, and accessible to all. Great to see it's also available on Kindle too. If you know someone who is looking to add a dog to her/his family, this would make an excellent gift!

My dog was an escape artist.. (still is but not as much!)

I love Julie's book, esp all the anecdotes. Her website was extremely helpful for me when our family first adopted a puppy. Our puppy is now 1 year old but for a long time he has been an escape artist. I followed her suggestions in the book about how to get him back instead of chasing him. That really worked. We now run in the opposite direction and he chases us to figure out what's happening! I like the way the book is set up and Julie's opinions on what constitutes a "well-behaved" dog. She also has great ideas for exercising dogs and I totally believe her theory that the exercised dog is a well behaved one!
