Not as good as I expected

I'm new to Christine Warren's books, and I'm not sure if I'll continue or not. I both liked and disliked this book. I didn't like Dmitri/Misha's need to dominate Regina ALL the time, and I didn't like that she didn't stand up to him more. She just kept repeating that because she was a sexual submissive didn't mean she was submissive all the time (although you'd never tell by her actions around him). I also didn't like that he took her blood without her even knowing he was a vampire. He later says that he never takes from unwilling donors, but since he didn't ask her, and she didn't know he was a vampire, there was no way for her to give consent.

Many of the sex scenes were actually quite steamy in a "forbidden fantasy" way, but I can't say that I didn't feel there were too many. I didn't see how Regina and Dmitri/Misha even knew each other well enough to be "in love". I almost felt like he raped her on their first date by "hypnotizing" her into not being able to move/say no. I didn't like the Fantasy Fix (at least not for Regina) since she wasn't truly willing to do it. I thought it was quite a fun idea (for the other women), and especially to help women get over breakups in general, but Regina totally wasn't into it... until she ran into Dmitri. Also, her willingness to turn into a vampire was out of character (at least the way I saw it), especially since she seemed so timid all the time. There was also the fact that there should have been a question of her becoming some kind of human servant (like Dmitri's assistant) and being able to provide him both physical love and actual nurishment from her blood. I felt almost like I was reading two stories that got shoved together; the vampire romance/sex part and then the vampire conspiracy with Reggie's ex-fiancee and one of the women he cheated with, who just happened to be a crazy rogue vampire. That part of the story was very anticlimactic. At the end, Reggie's friends and some of Dmitri's "colleagues" just happened to bust in on her and Dmitri after they had had sex and this could have been written better as well to provide more closure for the story as a whole.

I didn't like the character of Ava. She was so pushy about the Fantasy Fix for Reggie that I almost felt like she was forcing her to go out and have sex and therefore sort of raping her. She was also such a control freak about it (yes, I do understand that knowing the person well makes it safer for the woman getting her Fix, but it was still weird for her to be so angry that Reggie Fixed herself). I did like that Ava was protective of her friend (although this feeilng soured some when I read the excerpt for Ava's own story).

In the excerpt for Ava's story, Ava is also shown to be very cold and withdrawn from her friends, and I don't like that at all either. It just made me like her less than I did before. I've also not read any of the other stories, so I was astounded that they'd all already been "Fixed" up by Ava's story, which sounded like it was supposed to be the second according to the fact that this one was the first. Then I came online and found out about all the eBooks Warren released with Ellora's Cave, and felt kind of cheated that I didn't know that's where I was supposed to have started. It did clear up a problem I had with this book, because this was originally published as an erotica piece I believe and she had to pump up the romance and conspiracy parts to make it a fuller book - which explains the two story feeling I had while reading it.

Great book. I'm glad it's been expanded.

I loved this story when I originally read it as Fantasy Fixed. The expanded version is much better.

Personally, I appreciate the opportunity to buy the complete "Others" series. I missed some of them when they were only available at Ellora's Cave.

I will happily buy the whole series for my Kindle when they are available.

When Regina?s friends insist on setting her up a ?Fantasy Fix? to help her get over her cheating ex, she dreams up some kinky out-of-this-world encounters that they could never possibly bring to life. But the next thing Regina knows, her friends have got her laced into a shiny black corset, tight leather pants, and a sexy pair of stilettos. It?s time for some downtown vampire-fantasy fun. . . .

The Vampire Ball in Manhattan?s East Village isn?t really Dmitri Vidâme?s idea of a good time, but as a member of the Council that governs the Others, he has to keep an eye on all the young vamps who prey on the pretenders. After he feasts his dark eyes on fiery Regina at the bar, he knows that he must have her. But for the first time Dmitri meets a woman who is more than a match for his indomitable will. And he may be the fantasy Regina hoped for? until she?and her feisty friends?discover her sexy new lover?s bloodsucking secret?
