So I finally read Push
I'm going to have to go against the grain on this one. After hearing so much about this book and all the 5 star reviews I just had to read it. While
Push
was good, it was not all that to me. For one, I would have liked to have read more from Push's perspective and less from Roy. It was a good book but somewhat of a disappointment compared to the hype surrounding it.
Pushing the boundries of excitement
Relentless Aaron has done it!He is that rare breed of authors who can excite, anger and arose a reader in the same book.
PUSH
is the novel that caused me to want more from this author as well as dreading the ending of said novel due to the fact that it was that damn good!It takes the reader into the world of a classic anti hero named Reginald "Push" Johnson.Push comes home after serving time in prision only to be lured back into the seamy underbelly of Harlem for the sake of family. The novel details the relasionship of Push the hitman, his victims, and the effect one has on the others lives. There is a lot to be said for an author who takes the time to do reserch on a subject for publication but with Relentless Aaron you feel that he has been there done that and has the tee shirt! He has created a page turner that only leaves you wanting more. The same way a man and woman who have just finished their first honeymoon bedroom session want more. This is a well written exciting summer read.I highly recommend it.

One Of The Greats
I've been an english teacher for 10 years, a business owner for 6 years, and a community leader since 1997... and I must say that I've never been encouraged to wriite a "review" about any book, story, etc.--especially not online. Now comes this new author, Relentless Aaron, with his book
PUSH
. I must here and now praise this author, his heart and courage, since such a story could NEVER be crafted had the author not experienced the same (at least) in some capacity. Relentless is a jewel among us. He is in depth, he is full of awareness & wisdom, and (quite frankly) I see him as a POWERHOUSE not to be compared. Anyone who discounts his worth, his value, or his contribution to the literary landscape is not very real themselves. DON'T HATE, CONGRATULATE! is what I have to say to the one or two haters I've read about. To those who DO understand the plight and power of PUSH (the character, as well as the storyline), you've probably been through something, enough to understand how rough the streets can be. ROUGH indeed. And since (as the saying goes) everything ain't for everybody, this book would be for those who can handle the truth... for those who don't embrace the superficial, and also, for the NON-haters of the world who are too busy with their own lives to be negative! We applaud Relentless Aaron for his work, and I ask my fellow readers to indulge in true, honest emotions of PUSH. Both the story and the main character will have a sincere impact on your life.

Over Rated
After reading all the rave reviews I was drooling to read this much over rated novel. I was very disappointed at the countless descriptions the author felt the need to devulged to introduce each and every character. Asondra was as stupid as they come! Willing to do and ignore any and everything her man commands just for a quick buck.
Push
was the sterotypical jail bird! He spent the best years of his life behind bars which resulted in him being hardened, emotionless, and thinking he could out smart his PO. This makes me think, do they ever learn? Can they live the straight and narrow? Can they benefit society? Sara, was a ucking fay trip! A white woman using this type of language towards a black man is totally unacceptable! She would've been killed with the first racial remark she felt the need to let loosely slip her lips. Overall, Relentless did a good job taking the novel full circle but was surely in my opinion overly descriptive. Although, sex scenes can never be too descriptive :-)

Push this back on the shelf
Relentless delivers another urban fiction. Back in the day, Reginald "
Push
" Jackson was known as the biggest drug pusher of the 125th street crew. They had the drug game on lock until the Feds came in and had witnesses turn state's evidence, thus causing Push to be sentenced to 15 years in a federal penitentiary. As a result, the crew and the drug game folded.
Fifteen years later, with a hardened body and soul, Push re-enters society determined not to succumb to recidivism. That's funny considering shortly after his release he murders his sister's boyfriend because she has telltale signs of abuse on her face. This isn't the end of his vengeance; he is still determined to avenge his parent's death --twenty years later. What Push doesn't know is: someone is watching him; someone saw him murder his sister's boyfriend in cold blood. That someone is Roy Washington. Roy is an ex-informant turned loan shark extraordinaire of Harlem . Roy is intrigued by what he sees and now wants to know the man behind the gun. He wants to proposition Push to do some work for him. Push wants to become legit and has a real estate venture brewing in his head, but he needs capital to make it come to fruition. How will he raise the capital is the question.
While reading you may become a tad bit confused in regards to whom the book is really about. The title says Push but most of the story is about Roy Washington. You see, Roy is also working a deal with the Feds to uncover a campaigning scheme where a local politician's campaign manager is using monies from the "Empowerment" fund for his own purposes. Both Roy and Push play integral parts but who hires whom? As the plot unfolds, a lot of unexpected results are the conclusion and someone ultimately has to pay in the end.
Push reads like an "already been done" type novel that tells about someone's stint in prison and their attempt to walk on the other side of the law after being released. This attempt was - okay. The grammatical and editorial errors annoyed me. I have officially dubbed Relentless Aaron the ellipse king simply because...he used them...clearly where other...punctuation...would have better...fit. This significantly detracted from the story simply because I kept - pausing. Ain't that many breaths in a story, period. While the story had potential, it failed on this attempt.

Reginald ?
Push
? Jackson was a good kid from Harlem. He never meant to do anyone any harm. His parents raised him better than that? But then they were murdered and he was left on his own. And that?s when the real trouble began?
Street fights. Guns. Drugs. Push fought his way through the back alleys to become one of Harlem?s most powerful players. He made a name for himself for being tough. But he was loyal, too. Push would do anything to keep his loving sister, and his baby nephew, out of harm?s way?until the law caught up with him, and he landed himself in a federal penitentiary.
Fifteen years later, Push has paid his dues. Though he planned to leave the thug life behind once he got out prison, he suddenly finds himself back in the game. But this time there are new players, and the rules are more dangerous?and deadly?than ever?
