Great SCI FI book

If you like a lot of action this book is for you. I loved it and can't wait for the other books. Worth your money.

Reminecent of Heinlein if....

he wrote a sequel to Starship Troopers. It is an enjoyable read. There is a sly reference to Heinlein's "Citizen of the Galaxy" that astute readers will pick up.
I would recommend this book if you enjoy a thinking man's military science fiction.

Absorbing - Highly Entertaining

I am loving this author! I won't recap the series or plot of this book in my review, but I will say I am waiting on pins & needles for book four. This one picks up nicely where the last one stopped and the characters continue to fascinate as they mature and develop emotionally with each book - that is something I don't see often.

Love it

I bought the first book of this series just saw it and picked it up.

These books are awesome and this one as much as the first two. Some of the reviews published say it is in the same tradition of Starship Troopers and Enders Game. Well, IMHO Enders game alone was really good, the next ones left a lot to be desired. This series does something that Enders Game does not, it delivers.

If you like military Sci-Fi, this is a must have for your collection.

Another Solid "Orphan" Book

"Orphan's Journey" is a solid sequel and the 3rd book of the series (starting with Orphanage (Jason Wander). With many of the now familiar characters reappearing (Jason, Ord, Jude, Howard, and Jeeb), this book was like a visit with old friends. One of the best things about this installment is that we finally see Jason maturing into the leader he needs to be. While the action starts off fairly slowly (necessary to set the stage), the middle and ending are presented at a breakneck pace and really captured what I enjoy about this genre.

Beuttner created an exciting and exotic world for us and does a good job dealing with the cultural issues Jason has to face, but with the next book, Orphan's Alliance (Jason Wander), I hope we get some more insight into the "Slug" mentality.

Highly recommended!

In the years since the last Slug War, Jason's command style hasn't made him any friends in the Army. Now, in an effort to keep him out of trouble, the Army has sent Jason to the vast, Earth-orbiting resort called New Moon. At the core of this enormous space station is a starship, a relic from the last war.

When a test run of the ship goes wrong, Jason, along with a handful of others, will be torn from orbit and thrust into space. Now, stranded on an alien planet, Jason realizes that not only are his friends are looking to him for rescue, but an entire planet sees him as their only hope.
