Could double as real-life strategy guide

4.5 stars. Very good analysis of football concepts, such as formations, passing route combinations, blocking schemes, coverage, etc. I've been familiar with football for a long time, but not playing any "talent" positions, I was oblivious to some of this info. Anyone interested in learning more about the strategy of football, this is a good intro.
As far as a video game guide, 3.5 stars. They have numerous blitzing templates and cover several offensive plays, but it would have been nice to have a bit more gameplay tips, especially for running the ball and covering the pass. Also, the screen captures in the guide don't help much at all for the concepts they're trying to explain. I really don't care about breakdowns of BCS teams or dynasty tips, but I can see how this might be helpful for others.

Little skimpy this year...

I purchased this add-on manual to enrich my NCAA 11 experience. I purchased the version last year and previously purchased the E-book version from VG Sports (author of this guide for NCAA 10 & this year again NCAA 11). Last year's version was a lot more 'meaty'. This year's version was had some good material on the playbooks but totally ignores the Dynasty features of the game which is what most of the hardcore NCAA gamers play. The Recruiting engine was totally revamped this year in the game and it would have been nice for the guide to cover it some detail as this is a major component in the Dynasty play of the game. Also, in the past, each FBS team had a half page with some info such as the formations employed on offense and defense, depth charts, program info, etc. Now this only covered for the Top 15 schools. I also would like to see complete playbooks for all formations in the game. This might not be practical in print anymore since EA has expanded for the good to make the formations and plays be less generic and more school specific but maybe a way to access online. VG sports used to include this in their E-book. Two years ago EA Sports provided for free on-line and VG Sports did likewise last year but it is not available anywhere. On the positive, I do like the spiral book concept but just would have liked to have more content. Not bad if you can get for a reduced price here on Amazon (I paid $10).
