(4.5 stars) Wonderful!
Nefertiti
is a fictionalization of the life of Nefertiti, the famous queen of Egypt and wife of the heretic pharaoh Akhenaten. The story is told from the perspective of Nefertiti's sister, Mutnodjmet, who is privy to everything that goes on in the royal palaces at Thebes and Amarna. Mutnodjmet and Nefertiti are as different as night and day, and soon Mutnodjmet finds herself wishing for a simpler life, away from the scheming machinations of her sister and bother-in-law.
Nefertiti was the kind of book I read in only about three days, it was that hard for me to stop reading! I haven't read historical fiction set in ancient Egypt this good since reading Judith Tarr's Pillar of Fire many years ago. Michelle Moran pulls you into Nefertiti and Mutnodjmet's story and just won't let you go. The sisters are interesting contrasts to one another, and I enjoyed the way in which they interacted, sometimes adversely. I also loved the way in which Moran goes into detail about court life at Amarna. For an author of historical fiction set in ancient Egypt, it's quite a feat to get those details down right, so Michelle Moran deserves commendation for that. I only had one small problem with the book, which was that I thought the ending was a little messy. But other than that, this is a well-researched and well-written
novel
about a woman's lust for power and how that lust can destroy. This novel really, really makes me want to read The Heretic Queen!

An adventure in the Nefertiti world through her sister
This was a really good read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The title is misleading because the book really is about the sister of
Nefertiti
and not herself, but she does have a good place in it. I remember learning things about Egypt and Mummies in elementary school, but not much since then and this book was a good little history lesson as well as a good
novel
. Mutny, the main character and narrator goes through so much and the way that this novel is written you (the reader) go right with her. You feel her pain, her anger, and her ignorance at times right with her. This is an incredible accomplishment for a first time author. I strongly suggest the read as worthwhile.

Michelle Moran has brought to life the story of
Nefertiti
as no one else could. As a reader she draws you into the story of one of Egypts most talked about Queen and her reign with Akhenaten. She fought to become his Queen then fought for their place in history only to be removed by others. Her story is rich with family, triumph, and betrayal told through the eyes of a younger sister.
Moran has done a wonderful job telling Nefertiti's story for all yo read.

Amazing Book for all the Ancient Egypt History Lovers
After my recent visit at the MET in NY, my love for Ancient Egypt intensified ,hence,
Nefertiti
was picked up. I had read all the comments weighting the pros, the cons and even visited the author's website: This book is by far not only an easy read but it is a real page turner at 400 and something pages.. It is very interesting so interesting that you will not want to put it down. You will eat, breath, dream of in this magnificent era.. From the carniving plots, the romance, the description of scenery of the amazing Egypt, the story line, one will fall in love / hate the characters but yet might have a better understanding of what might have caused the decline of a powerful reign and for this great queen to be erased from history. Karma or Ma'at is very powerful and recent discoveries have proven that she did exist. Of course, this is a historical fictional
novel
so you can not base this as being the accurate " holly" truth. The author did a fabulous job by depicting history but she also excited my reading appetite for more: so much so that i only waited 24hrs after reading Nefertiti to pick up the next book " The Heretic Queen". Now i simply can not wait for Cleopatra's daughter. If you are looking to fall in love with Egypt , run to your nearest book store and buy Nefertiti.
I wonder if a director can make a movie out of it? It is THAT GOOD.

Nefertiti
and her younger sister, Mutnodjmet, have been raised in a powerful family that has provided wives to the rulers of Egypt for centuries. Ambitious, charismatic, and beautiful, Nefertiti is destined to marry Amunhotep, an unstable young pharaoh. It is hoped that her strong personality will temper the young ruler?s heretical desire to forsake Egypt?s ancient gods.
From the moment of her arrival in Thebes, Nefertiti is beloved by the people but fails to see that powerful priests are plotting against her husband?s rule. The only person brave enough to warn the queen is her younger sister, yet remaining loyal to Nefertiti will force Mutnodjmet into a dangerous political game; one that could cost her everything she holds dear.
