Mindset a winner
Mindset
by Stanford professor of
psychology
, Carol Dweck, is a book that fosters development of an individual by proposing that everyone wither has a growth mindset or fixed mindset. A growth mindset in an individual is open to various opportunities and being a "work in progress" is a phrase that describes a growth mindset. Contrasting the growth mindset is the fixed mindset in which an individual may go through life avoiding challenges and failures because the individual beilives his or her talents are fixed. An example of the growth mindset in the book by the sport of tennis. Pete Sampras shows he is open to failure when he loses match after match as a junior by learning a one-handed backhand that will suit him well later in professional tennis. John McEnroe on the other hand had a fixed mindset when he proceded up the junior tennis ranks because he believed that extra work on his game might hurt his tennis fortunes at a later time. Overall the book Mindset is a read that fosters a healthy growth mindset in an indivudual.

Well worth owning
The short review: I loved this book enough to recommend it to at least 5 good friends so far.
Mind/life Changing
One of the most enlightening bits of research I've read in years. It fills in the blanks explaining why we act the way we do.
If you read this, you will not view things the same way again. And it will be a positive change, effecting relationships of all types - at work, family, and self.

Great book for parents and teachers
This is one of the most helpful books that I have ever read. As a high school math teacher, I have found a bunch of ways to implement the ideas presented in this book. The words that we use are powerful and really make a difference in the lives of those we interact with. If you want to change the lives of teens and others around you, read this book. I bought 10 of them and gave them away (something that I have never done before.)

World-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck, in decades of research on achievement and
success
, has discovered a truly groundbreaking idea?the power of our
mindset
.
Dweck explains why it?s not just our abilities and talent that bring us success?but whether we approach them with a fixed or growth mindset. She makes clear why praising intelligence and ability doesn?t foster self-esteem and lead to accomplishment, but may actually jeopardize success. With the right mindset, we can motivate our kids and help them to raise their grades, as well as reach our own goals?personal and professional. Dweck reveals what all great parents, teachers, CEOs, and athletes already know: how a simple idea about the brain can create a love of learning and a resilience that is the basis of great accomplishment in every area.
