Needs some work
The book is well made and the presentation is good except as noted below. This is
pro
bably the best of the "follow along with the program style books" I have used, but the use of the program along with jumping into the text constantly slows learning.
The illustrations and screen shots are ubiquitous, but in some cases are too dark and too small. My real quibble with the text is the discussion of the importing and organizing of photos. The user interface for this activity is very different from the "Photoshop Bridge" style. This might not be a problem except I found it very unintuitive and poorly explained as well. The fact that .JPE ( what my camera puts out for embedded Adobe RGB 1998 files) will not open is not made clear and I wasted an entire day finding this out and buying a file rename program. There is no error message from the program, either.
Since
Aperture
is advertised as a program to organize and provide a framework for photo projects, and not a pixel mover like Photoshop, I found this lack of clarity to be puzzling. If the style of the interface and the poor introduction are not a problem, then I would rate the book higher.

Great combo for learning Aperture
The book and content are excellent. Would have been nice to use the included CD, but my iMac froze 4 times when the CD was inserted. Never got it to work and no contact was listed to rectify the
pro
blem.
UPDATE: See my last comments below. CD replaced promptly by publisher after others directed me to the correct place. Thanks to all.
Aperture 2- Engaging !!!!!!
I have found this book to be well-composed, easy to understand and helpful towards the goal of master certification with
Apple
.
If you are new to digital photography and editing, then you should seriously consider purchasing this book and the
Aperture
2 software.

Great for beginners to the program but has shortcomings after that.
As a newbie to
Aperture
2 I was drawn to this book for it's step-by-step
training
format, and it does that very well. After going through the training I still have the need for a tightly organized reference resource, which is where this book falls short IMO, you have to go back through each lesson to find what you are looking for. The bottom line is that the book does what it's advertised to do very well but it's not the be-all, end-all book for Aperture 2.
