Another J.D. Robb hit.
Kindred
in
death
is a typical
Eve
Dallas
murder mystery. I love the characters and how they grow and change through each of these adventures. The story stands alone, but is so much more rewarding when read in sequence. That is how you come to know and love the characters and look forward to the challenges and changes in their lives.
Don't listen to all the negative reviews
I hate to admit that I almost passed this one by after reading all the negative reviews, i.e., how graphic the murders were especially the initial one of the 16 yr. old victim. Geeze, people! There have been more explicitly written scenes in a number of other In
Death
books, 'Naked...' and 'Betrayed...' come to mind. Another complaint was that we didn't see any of our other favorite characters, none of the interactions between characters that we love, but there again, they're wrong. Yeah, sure, I love to see
Eve
and Roarke fight it out then make up, but really people. They've been married going on two years now. They can't fight EVERY time! That would be boring. This one is very good and on par with the rest of the series. Don't pay any attention to the negative reviews.

Negative NOT!!!
I was not let down by this book at all. Well written, believable plot and good characterization. I have only one objection in that I wish these books came out more than twice a year, if we're lucky. Just a note to the people who 'just don't understand why the books are set in the future.' It's because they started out, and continue to be set in a futuristic world. These books were originally found in the fantasy section and not in the mystery section that they are found nowadays (depending on the bookstore). I will be perfectly honest and say that the only book in this series that I didn't like wholeheartedly was Remember When. I look forward to the next in this series and know that I will not be disappointed.

Another Good Read
Robb doesn't disappoint. The story was fast paced and true to form. Very enjoyable
Solid addition to the series
Kindred
in
Death
was a bit darker than some of the other books in the series as it focused on the rape and death of a sixteen year old.
Eve
Dallas
is asked to forgo her vacation plans and find the murderer as she is the daughter of a police captain. The book provides the reader with a game of wits matching Eve with a clever, merciless killer.
The book seemed to focus more on the procedure to catch the murderer than it did relationships which is why I rated it four stars. In reading the other 29 books and the novellas, I've come to expect strong writing where the relationships were concerned. For instance Charles and Louise's wedding is part of this book, but it is so distant to the plot that you really don't feel engaged in the wedding preparations which Eve, of course found herself volunteering to host at the mansion she and Roarke inhabit. Charles and Louise have been pivotal characters through out the series, yet as a reader, I found myself disappointed that their wedding took such a huge back seat to the murder.
Robb's Roarke/Dallas series is one of the best out there though. None of the books can be rated a real "stinker" in my opinion and that alone is pretty miraculous for someone who has produced 30 books and the novellas surrounding the same set of characters. Robb is a master at introducing new characters and allowing you to feel part of their lives while maintaining the energy of the old characters. This book lacked a bit of the energy prevalent in her other books.

When the newly promoted captain of the NYPSD and his wife return a day early from their vacation, they were looking forward to spending time with their bright and vivacious sixteen-year-old daughter who had stayed behind.
Not
eve
n their worst nightmares could have prepared them for the crime scene that awaited them instead. Brutally murdered in her bedroom, Deena's body showed signs of trauma that horrified even the toughest of cops; including our own Lieutenant Eve
Dallas
, who was specifically requested by the captain to investigate.
When the evidence starts to pile up, Dallas and her team think they are about to arrest their perpetrator; little do they know yet that someone has gone to great lengths to tease and taunt them by using a variety of identities. Overconfidence can lead to careless mistakes. But for Dallas, one mistake might be all she needs to bring justice.
