Kidder does a superb job of teaching us how much the human spirit is capable of. Paul Farmer has lived an extraordinary, selfless life and his accomplishments have truly made the world a better place. Reading about him and the work of Partners in Health should change your life!

Reawaken the Passion for Healing

This book doesn't really need another review -- clearly it was well loved and respected long before I discovered it.

More to the point is that I needed to acknowledge how deeply moving and inspiring it was, making me forget I was home sick!!! It allowed my own passion for healing to be more deeply awakened and expressed in my little corner of the world, with a dream to one day share it ... who knows where.

Only rarely could someone maintain the incredible energy, constant travel, mental gymnastics, and extraverted lifestyle of Paul Farmer. But I believe most physicians and many other healers can recognize this call to our innermost core, that space where we first made a commitment to the sacrifices required to do our work with all of our heart, soul, body and mind engaged. After being buried in paperwork, politics, legislative regulation, and thousands of other forms of beauracratic and social hurdles standing in the way of daily living out the compassion we first envisioned . . . this book offers vastly more than a ray of hope . . . its a joyous solar flare.

I am humbled and inspired. Most importantly, I will never be the same after having the opportunity to almost feel, see, hear, smell and touch the textures of life in Haiti (and to a lesser extent in Lima, Peru and Russia) as if I was actually walking along side this remarkable man, a feat accomplished by the wonderful skills of the narrator -- Terry Kidder.
