This book gave me hope!

After suffering through three miscarriages, I needed some answers. This book was exceptional in providing some solid biological/medical/scientific truth to what could be happening inside my body to not be able to carry a baby to term. I had read many, many cold, clinical books on "infertility" that glossed over miscarriage. This book gave me the theories behind recurrent miscarriage in an easy to read, yet amazingly thorough fashion. Not only that, but it touched my heart and emotions in a way that was not touchy-feely nonsense, but backed with experience, evidence, and real-life situation after situation of women who were in my boat. These women Cohen interviews had stories that made me weep with sadness and cry out with victory. This book gave me the hope and strength to carry on in this quest for a child and carry on I did. I had two more "unexplained" miscarriages to total five, before my own unexplained miracle took place. My beautiful, healthy baby was born last year. There was no amazing intervention (exluding heparin, for "borderline" elevated anticardiolipid antibodies). If you need answers and hope, then I highly recommend this book. I truthfully don't know if I would have continued on without having read this book. And had I not, my story would have ended without my beautiful baby girl in my arms. Thank you Mr. Cohen for writing this book. Your own story gave me the hope I needed when I needed it most.

a fast read

I could not put this book down. I found it to be extremely helpful and therapeutic.

Steeped in compassion as well as wisdom and solid information

After his wife miscarried four pregnancies, author Jon Cohen poured effort into assembling a comprehensive, accurate, and user-friendly repository of information on miscarriage. Now in a new paperback edition that corrects a few errors found in the original, Coming to Term: Uncovering the Truth About Miscarriage explores the latest research and findings on the phenomenon, debunks myths and hype, and shines a spotlight on real problems that could be making the occurrence worse in today's world - such as federally unacceptable nitrate levels (which fluctuate seasonally, often influenced by agriculture and animal waste disposal) found in some American wells. Cohen also explores a diverse array of medical treatments, from drugs to surrogate parent contracts to "touchy-feely" emotional therapy methods that can offer surprisingly positive results. Steeped in compassion as well as wisdom and solid information, Coming to Term is highly recommended.

Excellent book

This book gave me clarity and peace after suffering from 2 miscarriages. I refer to it often when I need some guidance and explanation. A must for all women who have experienced one or more miscarriages.

After his wife lost four pregnancies, Jon Cohen set out to gather the most comprehensive and accurate information on miscarriage--a topic shrouded in myth, hype, and uncertainty. The result of his mission is a uniquely revealing and inspirational book for every woman who has lost at least one pregnancy--and for her partner, family, and close friends.

Approaching the topic from a reporter's perspective, Cohen takes us on an intriguing journey into the laboratories and clinics of researchers at the front, weaving together their cutting-edge findings with intimate portraits of a dozen families who have had difficulty bringing a baby to term.

Couples who seek medical help for miscarriage often encounter conflicting information about the causes of pregnancy loss and ways to prevent it. Cohen's investigation synthesizes the latest scientific findings and unearths some surprising facts. We learn, for example, that nearly seven out of ten women who have had three or more miscarriages can still carry a child to term without medical intervention. Cohen also scrutinizes the full array of treatments, showing readers how to distinguish promising new options from the useless or even dangerous ones.

Coming to Term is the first book to turn a journalistic spotlight on a subject that has remained largely in the shadows. With an unrelenting eye and the compassion that comes from personal experience, Jon Cohen offers a message that is both enlightening and unexpectedly hopeful.
