History Repeats
This book is so important to bring all of us back
from
the brink of Politics and back to what
God
intends for us to do as Christians. Yes we vote but we shouldn't get caught up in the hate and anger that comes if we continually listen to the news. I have been so ill willed the last year and I don't want to continue that way, this book reveals what God's word says about how we should respond to what is going on in America. Warnings need to be heard and considered carefully! As always Lutzer takes us back to the WORD for the answers we need.
Was Enjoyable but a Letdown at the very End!
'
When
a
Nation
Forgets
God
' was a very inspiring and encouraging book that concerning Hitler's reign and the present day government. Lutzer writes about Courageous Bonhoeffer and his stand against Hitler's evil tyranny. I really enjoyed reading the book and became very encouraged as a Christian UNTIL THE LAST PAGE! That is when Lutzer sudden takes on a conciliatory tone and seems to tell Christians not to be involved in the culture wars and to look at the 'rot' inside of us. He cannot be serious. As Christians we should always be courageous and not march to the cross and then duck our heads and run back. I was very sorry to read the last page because the rest of the book is very good.

well researched and not scriptured to death.. Thumbs up....
This was a very well researched and planned book. I enjoyed the fact that it had alot of history , facts and data to the differant chapters. Very good referances.. the only thing i did not like is
when
he went off on a tengent about gays, abortion and muslims.. but other wise this was very good. Does not scripture you to death eithe like alot of Christian books try to do.
Thumbs up Lutzer...

Thought Provoking
This book reminds us of the importance of staying aware and steadfast in your convictions. It is shocking to see how easily people can be persuaded into believing wrong is right
when
told what they want to hear.

Overdue but still in time..
This book was long overdue. Question is, what will people do with it? Briefly Bonhoeffer's quote sums up the theme: "Suffering is not an interruption of life..it is a divine gift." He was referring to the redemptive aspect of suffering for a good cause, in this case, the Gospel. And suffer we will if we live it, as opposed to just talk it. I met Lutzer in upstate NY years ago and never forgot it. He is a man of integrity, a scholar, and a thinker. This book uses Hitler as a background to make a point: What happens
when
personal faith separates itself
from
the culture it lives in and becomes isolationist? What happens when authority tells you keep your faith personal and not live it publicly? How about when laws are passed that forbid you to mention your personal faith publicly? The church in the West has too long been detached from the church in the East, including the suffering church. Lutzer tries to remedy that by awareness and a challenge to be real and live what we believe. This small book packs quite a punch.

Bread Over Freedom?
Years ago, a cartoon appeared in a Russian newspaper picturing a fork in the road. One path was labeled freedom; the other path was labeled sausage. As we might guess, the path to freedom had few takers; the path to sausage was crowded with footprints.
When
given a choice people will choose bread and sausage above the free market and individual liberties. The promise of bread gets votes, even if the bread is at the expense of freedom.
The people of
Nazi
Germany
weren?t any more barbaric, uncivilized, or depraved than any other Western
nation
of the early Twentieth Century, yet the Nazi regime will forever serve as an example of brutality and extreme racism run amok. What led so many people to such extreme ends?
According to Dr. Lutzer, the German people?s progression
from
civility to barbarity was not extraordinary, and more than a few benchmarks from their transition can be observed in present day American society (Do any of these sound familiar?):
- The Church is silenced
- The economy is king
- The lawmakers determine behaviors
- The media controls beliefs
- The Gospel and nationalism become inextricably tied to each other
- And yet, heroes still have power
This short, manageable book does not suggest the United States is definitely marching toward authoritarian oblivion, but that we ? especially we believers ?
must
be vigilant in our stand for truth, justice, and righteousness.
We must take note of these
lessons
from history. The parallels are real, but the conclusion is not a foregone one.
