Crabs, whales & sharks...oh my!

A rhyming counting story that makes us want to sing. The pages are bursting with color, mommy sea creatures swimming with their babies. The book introduces all kinds of sea creatures: Whales, fish, otters, crabs, sharks, seahorses, jellyfish & more. Utterly enjoyable for me as well as my 3 year old.

Educational and fun!

Teach your kids to learn something from every book and have fun at the same time! Great book with lots of information presented in a fun way!

The Sea version to " Over in the Meadow "book

This book's idea came from a book I loved as a child called " Over in the Meadow, Where the Green Grass Grows". This book has taken counting in the meadow to the beautiful world and animals that live under the sea!

The illustrator Kenneth J. Spendgler did an awesome job!! I absolutely love page 5 with the sea otters. To me, they are so cute I just want to swim out and hug them! Another super cool thing about this book is that on each page the number of the page is hidden somewhere in his artwork, some where easy for me to find, others challenging. To me, this book will grow with my daughter and she'll see that there is more to this book than just a counting!

As far as the young reader who reviewed this book it ad big words in it, the only place I could think of that has big words is on the last 5 pages of the book. This is where the authors included "Fun Facts" on the sea animals that are featured in the story and the fact that the author talks about how all animals either have an invertebrate or invertebrates. Or maybe it was the words " Sea Urchin" and "Sea Anemone" which to me either dances off my tongue or twists it about like a tongue twister!

An awesome book that includes the story to song, fun facts on the sea animals pictured and one heck of a terrific artist! For any lover of the sea, you just can't go wrong purchasing this book!

A Wonderful and Beautiful Book!

What a wonderful and beautiful book! I love everything about this book! As a scuba diver, I've seen many of these creatures in the ocean. Kenneth did a great job at capturing their beauty. My kids and I appriciate how "friendly" all of the sea creatures are and the rhythmic pace of the words. An extra special bonus are the hidden numbers in each of the pictures! Both of my daughters fight over who can find the numbers first! It's far beyond a regular "counting book". It's a good little story as well. There is no way you can go wrong purchasing this book. It's a great book for the toddler age up 'til age six - though my eight year old always stops what she's doing to come and sit beside me while I read it to her little sister!

A great introduction to ocean creatures

I use this book as part of a children's program in Olympic National Park. It has several things going for it: the illustrations are beautiful; the rhyming is fun and engaging; each creature is introduced with an action; and it allows children and adults to readily relate through some universal concepts (like parent-child relationships, shelter, safety, playing, etc.). People from around the U.S. as well as from other continents enjoy and connect with this book. We talk about the animals in the story and discuss the meanings of any unfamiliar words during the program. Perhaps children reading this book outside of a ranger program would be inspired to find their meanings independently, and discover more about our dynamic oceans.

A counting book in rhyme presents various marine animals and their children, from a mother manatee and her little calf one to a mother octopus and her little babies ten. Complete with a glossary, musical score, and numbers hidden in the illustrations.
