'Poodle Clipping and Grooming' offers very good information

I have enjoyed using the book 'Poodle Clipping and Grooming: The International Reference.' My husband and I used to own a Pet Shop in New Carlisle, Ohio called 'Pirates Cove.' I groomed at least 12 to 15 dogs that came in every day. I was kept quite busy besides running the Store.
I always used the clippers for grooming and never just scissored the dogs. This book enlightened me to the Art of scissoring dogs opposed to just using the Oster Clippers. The book also shows all types of trims and cuts for Poodles from pet cuts to Show cuts. This book is an older book but is delightful reading and I have learned a lot from this book. Thank you, Shirlee Kalstone for writing The International Reference.

Good book

A very nice book on the poodle. It could have been made better by being more in-depth about the clipping of the show poodle. It needs more photographs and instruction. This would be helpful for beginners. A good read and at this time it seems the best book on Poodle grooming but like I said it needs more photos and needs to be more in-depth for a beginner. I am advanced in my grooming but saw that it lacked the information for a beginner.

The ultimate learning tool/reference...

Just got a Poodle Puppy or tired of paying the $100/mo or more for grooming? Get this book. My wife went through it in one day and completely groomed our 3-month old standard poodle the next day. He looks like a show dog. The other 40-or-so reviewers already reviewed the book, which is great, however I'd like to help someone get started, since we had to figure this out the hard way. Here are the tools you'll need to groom your poodle:

1. This book, of course.... :)
2. New Hydraulic Grooming Table Dog Pets 36" X 24 - This one is pretty good for the price and we leave it a little lower as it tends to get more wobbly the higher it goes.
3. Oster A5 Turbo Single Speed Professional Animal Clipper - Good clippers, don't skimp on these. We have the Oster A5 single speed, however I would recommend something quieter for more sensitive dogs. Good clippers will cut through hair like butter, but they also heat up fast, so we also use "human" clippers near eyes, on feet and in tight spots in general. They DO NOT cut as well, so we have to cut slower and more carefully, usually going over the same spot several times.
4. Shears - The best ones for the money are Aussie Dog, which aren't carried by Amazon, but I really like and recommend them. You'll need the 8" curved and 8" straight (just get the $100 set; well worth it IMHO).
5. Shampoo - we wash our dog every week, which keeps him smelling really good, so a good mild shampoo is important. We also use this Rinseace Pet Shower Deluxe - 8' shower attachment for ease.
6. R-7 Ear Care Kit for Dogs and Cats with 6 1/4 inch Curved Hemostat
7. Safari Professional Large Nail Trimmer or dremel-type clippers - we use both

The book coupled with the tools above will transform you into a professional groomer. Remember to introduce new objects to the dog slowly and use a lot of treats to distract him. Having someone help initially helps a lot. You can't really screw up... I mean, you can, but the hair will grow back a month or two later and you have a fresh canvas. So go to town, bond with your dog and save some money.

Dog Grooming Ultimate Source

This book is a must have for any poodle people. It really is a book almost anyone who grooms dogs with clippers should have. It is detailed, instructive, understandable, impressive in every way. I purchased three books on dog grooming at the same time and this book was in a class by itself.
