WEST WITH THE NIGHT
Despite the exquisite prose, I was disappointed with this book.
The "adventure aspect" was lacking for me.
The content was more autobiographical than expected.
Tremendously well written although there seems to be some doubt as to whether she wrote it
Amazingly well written. Hemingway said it best "Did you read Beryl Markham's book,
West
With The
Night
? ...She has written so well, and marvellously well, that I was completely ashamed of myself as a writer. I felt that I was simply a carpenter with words, picking up whatever was furnished on the job and nailing them together and sometimes making an okay pig pen. But this girl, who is to my knowledge very unpleasant and we might even say a high-grade bitch, can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves as writers ... it really is a bloody wonderful book."

Fascinating story of an Africa long passed.
West
with the
Night
is a personal narrative of an unusal childhhod set prior to WW I in an Africa which no longer exists. An autobiography rich in details of life in Africa for a small period of time. The author avoids showing personal emotions but this tightly written narrative is compelling. Recommend finding informaton on author's life as a supplement.

Fantastic
How anyone could give this book a one star rating is amazing.
The writing is wonderful and the account of a portion of the author's life is fascinating.
West with the Night
It was a very old book, and written just to show the love that every person has, who has ever been in Africa. I prefer Wilbur Smith.

Regarded by many as one of the best adventure books ever!
