Don't even hesitate - BUY IT

I've had ups and downs with my two teenagers, and I really wish I had this book five years ago, would have made a big difference in my life and theirs. Just buy it and read it, you'll be glad you did.

Life-altering help

I have read many books on raising children and teens, but this one is by far the most helpful. I was having nightly fights with my 14-year old son about homework, chores, and computer use, and our relationship was not a source of anything positive for either of us. After reading this book, I learned the importance of developing bilateral respect, putting the relationship first, and realizing that this phase is temporary. We still have fights, but maybe once or twice a month and we now know how to resolve them. I am enjoying my son's company again and feel much closer to him. He is more cooperative and helpful as well. I will be giving a copy of this book to all my friends who have children entering their teen years with advice to read it while they think they'll never need it, and again when they know they do.

A most helpful guide

Dr. Bradley does an excellent job of presenting an accurate picture of adolescence and parenting dilemmas. He takes a realistic, contemporary and primary scientific view on the subject matter and allows all of us the flexibility of implanting our own religious and moral viewpoints.

He does a very good job of incorporating developmental reasoning and focusing on the key aspects of identity formation and the important factors that play into that successful journey. I particularly liked the way he presented such issues as respect and trust as earned and reciprocal in nature and how adults must focus on modeling over lecturing.

Like many of the great books on parenting these days a heavy dose of "inside out" reflection and transformation is necessary for all parents to function effectively with their teens. I would also highly recommend: "Parenting from the Inside Out" by, Daniel Siegel and Mary Hartzell and "Raising Our Children Raising Ourselves" by Naomi Aldort.

This book saved my relationship with my teenager

If I wouldn't have found this book my daughter would be living in our detached garage because I was done dealing with her attitude, smart talk, moodiness, craziness, etc... Now I understand why she was acting the way she was acting and because of this book our relationship is better than ever. The solution was simple and I couldn't believe that the suggestions in the book actually worked, but they did. "Is that really the way you want to talk to me?" Genius! I learned that it was all in the way I was handling the way she was acting and with the help of this book I learned when to hold my ground and when not to. Now that I know how to handle my part of the equation she has done a 360. She still has her moments but they are very few and far between and now I know how to deal with them so that they go away as quickly as they arrived! My daughter is back to the huggy, lovey, positive, talkative kid I used to know. All because I learned how to deal with her craziness! Who knew the solution could be this easy?! I can't thank the author of this book enough for helping to save my relationship with my daughter. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
