Stable and cool running even when overclocked.

Equivalent to E8400.

Overclocked and stable at 3.75GHz. Have run SETI for 3 days 24/7 with no stability issues. Zalman cooler is probably overkill. Have yet to see CPU exhibit temp higher than 34 C. (12 C over ambient.) Ran stable at 3.84GHz for a couple of hours on SETI, then bumped it up to 4.0 Ghz. At 4.0 Ghz it would post, but I received Kernel errors so dropped it down to 3.75GHz. Even at 3.85GHz, with Zalman 9700 there was no increase in operating temperature over stock HSF.

Fantastic CPU for the price!

Yes, it appears to be true; the Xeon E3110 is the same processor as the LGA775 socket E8400. I couldn't find an E8400 in stock for quite some time but luckily found out about this "server" edition that some boards recognize as being the same thing. Check out the specs on entusiast forums and you'll see why everyone is going crazy for these processors. It is blazing fast, runs cool on air, and is an overclocker's dream! For the price, you can't go wrong.

Mine is currently running remarkably cool with the use of Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste and a Freezer Pro 7 cooler/heatsink. I was going to install a Tuniq Tower 120 but figured that was overkill. The Freezer Pro 7 was very easy to install and wasn't TOO large compared to the TT 120.

Just beware that, as of this writing, some motherboards don't recognize the new 45nm processors correctly during POST. This means you'll have to have an older CPU on-hand to enable flashing of the BIOS to a newer version that is compatible. If you're like me and don't have extra CPUs just laying around for such instances, I would strongly suggest buying a motherboard that is compatible with the 45nm processors. Though I've always had great luck with Asus boards, this time I went with a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3P and everything went just fine.
