This story, like many others on this board, have striking similarities to each other.

1. I buy an expensive new media center toy...

2. I experience buzzing from my speakers with the new device installed...

3. Call the cable company after tracing the buzzing sound to a poorly grounded CATV line (house is properly grounded too)...

4. Cable guy comes out and finds no problem even though he can hear the buzz as I plug in and unplug the coax...

5. Cable guy says TV has to be up pretty loud to hear buzzing, blames problem on TV...

6. I go into GTFO of my house mode... (important step)

Cable Company Baffled - This fixed it. Instantly.

We recently purchased a plasma TV for the bedroom, but noticed an audible humm from the speakers and witnessed really annoying horizontal scrolling lines of different sizes and colors on all the channels. So I called the cable company about problem. They sent some guy out, blah, blah...after having him change boxes, co-axial cable, etc. he told me that the problem was a defective TV. Unconvinced, I did some research on the web and various A/V forums only to discover that the problem described by others was EXACTLY like the problem I outlined to the cable company! Then I read about this ground loop isolator as a way to fix it, saw the reviews here, and ordered it. It arrived on time and is super easy to incorporate into the cable line. More importantly, it works. Period. WORKS EXACTLY AS ADVERTISED! No hum, no lines, no more problem. And it didn't degrade the HD signal at all. Five stars!

Remove Hum bars forever!!!

If you have horizontal or vertical hum bars/noise on your flatscreen TV, just install this little gadget and they are gone. I moved into an older house out in the country, set up my equipment( Panasonic Plasma TH-42PHD7, HD Cable Box through time warner, Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HDC) and had hum on my screen, coming from the poorly grounded cable(s) from Time Warner. I installed the ground loop isolator and they are gone. Don't bother wasting your time calling those idiots at the cable company cause they will have no idea what your are talking about. I spent a total of $30.00 including next day shipping. Instant fix.

I spent all this money to replace my dinosaur CRT television (which worked fine, mind you), only to get ground loop interference (audible hum through the speakers and ascending horizontal bars on the monitor) when video or coaxial cables were connected from the my Vizio TV to other electronic devices (e.g. TiVo, Wii).

In order to watch Cable/TiVo or play video games without the noise/bars, I had to disconnect the cable line from the wall. Unfortunately, I forgot to reconnect the wall coaxial cable a few times and we missed TiVo scheduled recordings. Ooops. Worse yet, my wife gave up on watching TV given the hassle.

I went to Radioshack and they sold me a $2 coaxial ground and told me to find some wire and reground the cable line in the wall. Seriously? I live in a giant apartment complex and I am not an engineer...

I read online about a product similar to this one, but it cost 3x as much. I found this device on Amazon and rolled the dice. I just plugged it in 5 minutes ago and it's A-W-E-S-O-M-E! NO more stupid bars or humming. NO more disconnecting one device to use another. NO more missing TiVo scheduled recordings.

If you have ground loop interference, buy this product and one male-to-male adapter for $2.99 and you'll be happy.

Worked perfectly

I have an old electrical set up and a brand new 42" HD TV hooked up to a cable box. I was experiencing rolling horizontal lines and extremely annoying audio humming when using the cable box component. This got rid of both! No more humming and no more lines! Affordable solution that is simple and effective. Well done.

When two or more devices are connected to a common ground through different paths, ground path noise or a ground loop can occur. This is actually quite common in home theater systems, even those that are well designed. The result of a ground loop is audio hum and/or horizontal bars in the TV picture. Disconnecting coaxial connections between components eliminates the hum or interference. If "beefing up" conventional ground connections and establishing solid ground points in your cable system does not resolve these problems, then a CableTVamps Ground Isolator is the most reliable way to fix it.
