Rain barrel

The rain barrel looks lovely in my garden. The design is really nice and the terra cotta look blends in nicely. Definately worth the extra money to avoid those tacky looking green rain barrels. It is, however, very large; about 4 1/2 feet high and 2 feet across at its widest point. Unless you have someplace to hide it it will be a prominent feature in your yard. It was easy to put together with one exception - the clamp provided with the barrel to secure the hose to the bottom of the barrel does not work. It is so cheap that it actually wouldn't tighten. I don't know how the barrel will function since it has not rained since I installed it.

Cascata Rain Water Collection System

I ordered 1 on a Monday and it was on my front porch Wednesday afternoon. Easy to assemble, easy to use, am thinking about ordering another one for the front on my house. I have waited for a while to purchase a rain collection system nothing appealed, when I saw this one I had to have it. The color is perfect for my landscaping and house. With over 78 containers to maintain and water, it's the perfect choice. Amazing that it captures 65 gallons of rain with even just a quick 10-15 minute shower. Great Product. Thanks Cascata!

Love it!

I love it! This is my first rain barrel. I initially bought it to correct a grading problem I have had on one corner of my home. However, I also have 2 flower beds, 1 flower garden, 1 small vegetable garden, 3 big dogs, and a yard to water!!! it was easy to set up and easy to use! I thought maybe i could use the top as a birdbath, but i put some clover in there and it's happy. The barrel itself looks SO nice.
Summary: It is very refreshing to purchase something that is as useful as it is good-looking. so worth the $$!!!

I sealed the top to work with back flow diverters

I bought this barrel for its good looks and in combination with Rainreserve 2012309 Rain Barrel Basic Rain Diverter (Barrel Not Included). I installed them right before a heavy rain and the barrel filled right up. However, the diverter didn't back flow the water into the gutter and the barrel overflowed. The diverter has a built-in back flow feature but I came to find out that the diverter doesn't work with open top/non-sealed barrels like this one even though the instructions say otherwise.

I could have added a hose to one of the two overflow ports on this barrel and back into the gutter. But that kind of defeats the purpose of the diverter with its back flow feature.

What did I do? I sealed the top of the barrel with plexiglass and Henkel 1154728 Loctite 0.85-Ounce Marine Epoxy. So far so good!

Here's how I did it. I used the round filter that comes with the barrel as a template to cut a circle in some 1/8 inch plexiglass I had laying around. I used my table jigsaw to make the cut. Then I roughed up the surfaces on the barrel lip and the surface of the disc that overlaps the lip with medium sandpaper. Next, I mixed the epoxy and applied it to the plexiglass disc around the edge where it will overlap with the barrel lip. I placed the plexiglass disc on the barrel lip and used a brick to hold it in place overnight.

The next morning I ran a hose to the diverter opening to top off the barrel. From the diverter, I use the supplied hose that came with the diverter and attached it to one of the barrel's overflow ports. No leaks in the top of the barrel and the back flow feature of the diverter works like it's supposed to using just one tube from the diverter to the barrel.

As for the hole in the planter top where a gutter tube is supposed to connect? I used a 4" rubber end cap I found at home depot that fits perfectly.
