Great music

I am in my fourties and an old Donna Summer's fan. The songs in this CD are great and I loved them. I strongly recommend this CD for everyone who loves Donna's music.

Sand On My Feet.

I'm not a Donna Summer fan ,but, after a year of hearing alot of hype about this new CD she had out I thought "why not?", so I snatched it. It's okay, it's not bad and it's not what I would call good. If you're going by what someone else tells you may not want to buy in to the hype. However, there's this one song I really like called "Sand On My Feet", Now that's a really good song and it suits her voice well, It also has really good lyrics. I've been playing it non-stop along with along with two other tracks called "Science Of Love" & "Mr. Music" which are two Fun-upbeat dance tracks that you can "Shake ya' Body" to. Overall the CD is not anything to write home about, I couldv'e done without it, but I do appreciate the three songs I mentioned, They're really good songs, Something new to add to the iPOD if you're bored with what's on it.

Well Worth the Wait!

This CD is such a huge treat after so many years away from the studio. It has a very fresh sound and, moreover, a very confident sound. Rather than rest on her laurels or return to formula in any way, Donna put together a very diverse collection of songs that allowed her to express herself very differently than in the past. The songs seem to be coming from within, rather than her gorgeous voice just mouthing words about someone or something outside her personal world. While I love to hear her belt one out, some of my favorite tracks on here go in the opposite direction. The title cut is a real stand-out, with Donna's intonations mirroring Ziggy Marley. Her voice is virtually unrecognizable on "Slide Over Backwards", but what a great song! "Stamp Your Feet" is a great anthem of empowerment. "Fame (The Game)" is probably the track that I've worn out... I keep hitting the replay button over and over... it's got a great electronic hook, and the lyrics are very smart. "Be Myself Again" is a great ballad and seems once again to be very autobiographical. I could go on about each of the songs, but suffice it to say that they all work as individuals, and together comprise a collection that is one of Donna's very best to date. I've always been a fan, and she's written and performed great material in the past, but this seems like the first time that every aspect of the package is coming from her. Can't wait for the next one!

Artistic Freedom Reigns on "Crayons"!

This is Donna back and in full, dazzling effect! She once again kicks down the doors of artistic repression and makes no apologies for it! Donna has not sounded so joyous, emotive, and inspired on record in a long time! Her recent singles such as "You're So Beautiful", "I Got Your Love", among a few others before this album release prove this. While they are enjoyable, vocally she does not sound as enthuiastic in those recording as she does here. This is an album of Popular songs ranging from Pop/R&B, Pop/Rock, to Reggae, Samba, Vocal House, and Adult Contemporary. Donna does not disappoint with her tour de force vocal performances and well written songs, the majority of which she has had a large part in writing! I am in concurrance with other reviewers that she this is a experimentational album that works. She picked where the criminally overlooked "I'm A Rainbow" album left off. Donna's voice is such a pleasure to listen to because one can hear the enthuiaism and clarity! One of my favourites worth praise is "Bring Down The Reign." It is a wonderfully produced and written that is a song of social commentary. It is powerful without being preachy. Other songs on "Crayons" I enjoy are "Science Of Love", "Driving Down Brazil", "The Queen Is Back", "Slide Over Backwards", the title track "Crayons." The albums' singles, "I'm A Fire", "Stamp Your Feet", "Sand On My Feet" (an Adult Contemporary chart hit peaking at #30), "It's Only Love" (issued as in the U.S. only) and "Fame (The Game)" are among the best on the album. Overall, a thrilling, moving, musical journey! It is one I will not forget! I sincerely hope Donna has more albums in works because it has been far to long that we have not experienced her unique approach to song!!! An A list album worthy of being included in your music collection!

Welcome back, Ms. Summer!

I love, love, love Donna Summer's voice, and it still sounds fantastic! Her songs on this CD are most enjoyable, very energetic and uplifting. However, there is one exception, "Slide Over Backwards." (Had this track been omitted, the disc would be perfect IMO.) All other songs are superb, though, and make Crayons a worthwhile purchase. The Queen is definitely back!

The Queen is Back! Legendary singer songwriter Donna Summer is back with her first studio album in 17 years. In the thirty plus years that Donna Summer has been making music she has never confined her artistry to just one genre. Although Donna is, and will always be, "The Queen Of Disco" to many fans, her hits have spanned multiple musical genres from Rock to R&B to Inspirational and of course, Dance.

Summer helped to define the 70's pop music generation and Crayons has all the characteristics that made Donna an icon. Containing a potent mix of the up-tempo tunes and ballads, the new album showcases incredible new material that is written by Donna (who wrote or co-wrote the majority of her hits of the 70's and 80's). Working with Donna were renowned writers and producers including: Greg Kurstin (Lilly Allen, Pink), Danielle Brisebois (Natasha Bedingfield, New Radicals), JR Rotem (Sean Kingston, Rihanna), Evan Bogart (co-writer of Rihanna's smash "SOS" and the son of legendary record executive, Casablanca Records founder and Donna's mentor, Neil Bogart), and Lester Mendez (Shakira, Santana).
