hdmi switching is flakey

The sound quality is ok, not great, its reasonable given its size, but is no match for a decent set of speakers.

Its pretty trivial to setup, but the hdmi only connections for video is annoying unless your tv and everything else you want to connect is new. And the hdmi switching is fairly flakey with my plamsa, it takes 5 seconds or so for the tv to sync up the picture, and there's interference and weird patterns going on while it switches.

Perfect match for PS3

I bought this bad boy a few weeks ago to replace my aging Onkyo 5.1 HTiB. My Onkyo couldn't handle the awesomeness of Linear PCM, which the HTCT100 can. And I hate cables. So the HTCT100 seemed like a smart choice. Like everyone else I had reservations about sound quality. Here's the thing: This ain't 5.1, not even close especially watching sports with my HD Cable box. BUT, it sounds fine and I honestly don't miss the wimpy surround from the cable box. With a PS3 things get much better, especially with Blu Ray discs. Once you start cranking Linear PCM through this thing your house will shake, or at least your coffee table will shake. And the fake surround is significantly better than with standard DVDs and the garbage Dolby signal from your cable box. And it even matches the wierd shiny black/gold fleck finish of the PS3. So if you have a small room and a PS3 buy this thing.

And for the record my Harmony 520 works fine with this thing, no learning required, and this product may have HDMI switching issues but I wouldn't know because I use my HDTV for all HDMI switching because that allows me to use separate video settings for my Cable box and for the PS3.

Good compact solution...but some flaws

Overall good product for this price range..but it has the following flaws..

1. You loose your headphone option, as this does not have one..if you want headphone option, this is not for you.

2. You need to POWER ON the TV before you POWER ON the AMP, else no audio.

3. HDTV channels has low volume vs normal channels.

Now the good stuff...

1. Compact
2. 3 HDMI Input ports (No other product has this in the market currently to my knowledge), it acts as a good HDMI switcher

Bang For Your Buck!! Must Buy!!

I plugged it in via HDMI to my PS3 to my Samsung LN40A550 40" 1080p TV. I have played some games and blurays with the device. The sound is excellent for the size and price of the unit. However, it is not as good as my actually 5.1 TruHD system (DUH!) but it is perfect for my TV in my bedroom.

The unit includes standard Dolby and DTS surround processing modes. For Blu-ray, it can accept uncompressed PCM soundtracks, but it won't decode Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, nor any DTS HD flavors. (The better Blu-ray players, such as Sony's own PS3, decode those soundtracks internally and output PCM anyway, so that's not going to be a big deal for most folks.)

In addition, if you would like an increased surround effect, keep the center channel level at the baseline "zero" setting or below for the most pronounced surround effects.

My only complaint is I wish there were more audio configuring options, but the center ans S/W tweeking settings and the sound profiles (standard, movie, music, game) are perfectly fine to get the sound you desire.

If your looking for a sound system for your bedroom, office, or small family room TV, this is PERFECT. I Highly recommend the purchase of this unit. If you have an HDTV without speakers yet and a HD source (PS3, bluray, xbox, sat box, upconverting dvd playr, etc.) get off your butt from your computer and go to wal-mart or best buy/or add to cart on amazon.com and purchase this item!

Expect Limitations

Sound is good for a small package, however since all HDMI devices HAVE to be controlled from the CT-100, it sets the stage for problems.

My $100 wireless headphones which I need to use at night as to not disturb my wife cannot be connected with this system.

My Harmony all in one remote also experiences restrictions.

All in all for me this does not work out so it's going back.

Good choice if you need just the sound and don't have the same setup (headphones, Harmony remote) as I.

One of the problems with home-theater surround sound is finding the space to place 6 speakers in a room. It can be a challenge. Sony's HT-CT100 converts the surround experience to 3.1 channels and uses only 2 speakers, a subwoofer and a SoundBar. The SoundBar is placed like a center channel speaker directly over the TV. Speakers within the bar radiate at different angles to deliver center, left, and right channels through a spatially enhanced soundfield. With 50 Watts to each channel + 100 Watts directly to subwoofer, the system delivers 250 watts total. Featuring HDMI - Component Video - Optical A/V ports, you can connect your TV and DVD or Blu-Ray player directly to the system. It's the simplest, most streamlined way to enjoy home-theater surround.

LPCM Playback - LPCM is a method of encoding audio information digitally which can have up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio. This wider bandwidth allows for high resolution audio which is closer to the original 3 Optical, 1-Coax Dolby Digital/DTS/ProLogic
