Fast- but at the expense of discretion.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great hard drive. It's pros most definitely outweigh it's cons, however you should never ignore cons. It was super simple to install in my Late 2008 MacBook Unibody after cloning my old drive to it with my desktop mac (with two extra SATA ports). Upon booting the MacBook for the first time, I noticed a few things.. One, and most importantly, it's FAST. Even with my measly 2Gb of ram, the 7200RPM drive makes my MacBook feel like something much higher spec'd. Second, it's not quiet. My old Seagate drive was silent in my MacBook, and I can definitely hear this drive spinning, "grinding", clicking. However, for the price, it's not enough for me to send it back. Noise aside, this drive runs cool. I really didn't have a heat problem before, but I definitely don't have one now.

If I could do it again, I would go for the cheaper 320Gb 7200RPM drive, because it can't be much worse, usually I pick the cheapest option, and I only went with this one because I trusted a Western Digital drive to be silent and fast. A few days prior to receiving this drive, I did the same clone-and-replace for a friend of mine with the same computer. He bought a Seagate 500GB 7200RPM drive, and it is silent, just like I wanted this one to be.

Great product for MacBook owners

I bought this a few months ago to replace the factory disk in my 2007 MacBook Pro. It's been fantastic. Everything is faster, and it operates almost inaudibly. Of course I haven't had it long enough to comment on its longevity, but WD have never let me down before. I can't recommend this enough for MacBook owners.

Fine hard disk

I installed this hard disk in an old Intel mac mini that used to have a 60GB drive. The Mac mini is a bear to disassemble, but this hard disk pops right in once you make your way into the machine - just format the hard disk and reinstall the OS, and you're off.

Now that it's in, everything runs nicely. There is a perceptible vibration that wasn't there with the old drive, but you have to almost put your ear on the case to hear it. The machine seems to run no hotter than it used to as well. There is no audible noise from the heads seeking. And of course, the machine is markedly faster - seems like about 20% faster or so when reading the disk.

The only remaining question is how durable it will be. I've had good luck with WD drives (and bad luck with Seagates) so hopefully this little drive is still running at least five years from now.

Hard drive review

I bought this hard drive to fix my neighbors laptop. It is working ok right now. The first drive that came with the HP laptop failed within 3 days of purchase of laptop and Best Buy stood behind it (in your dreams) bought this drive with neighbors money and HP sent me a copy of the software Free but no hard drive it cost almost $60 to get the machine back up and running. I hope it lasts for years to come. Best Buys good deal of $399 with windows 7 software seemed like a good deal at the time till the hard drive went south.

Western Digital 320 GB - Excellent Upgrade for your laptop

I will keep this short, I did a lot of research on hard drives when I upgraded my laptop and this drive stood out. I had a limited budget and waited for the price to come down and got it for less than $60 from Amazon. It works amazing and really speeds up my machine, I would definitely recommend it.
