Finally an extender that works without degradation

Finally, an extender that works without degradation of signal strength. I've tried a number of prior extenders, wireline extenders, wireless access points, etc, commercial and by hacking old routers, all of which that were either very twitchy or delivered much lower download/upload speeds than the main router. This one actually works (my wife and children do not want to know or care why their laptops don't work everywhere in the house at the best speed, just want results).

Be advised that when you hook it up per the instructions, all you have to do to put it into action is to log on with a wireless notebook. Nothing fancy. I was expecting more issues and called tech support to be sure that was all there was to it. Now the entire house gets a strong wireless signal at the same rate as the devices closest to the wireless router. Happy as a clam.

Range Extender works; some set-up/design issues

Overall, the product certainly does seem to work. However, a few points to consider. My router has auto channel switching; Hawking cannot support that feature (should figure out a way to do this for major brands, like Belkin, Linksys, etc). Because this isn't supported, the range extender stopped working immediately after I unplugged it to place in the final location (my router had switched to a new channel; not the one on the Hawking range extender had defaulted to in the setup). I had to call back to customer support to figure out that both items, the Hawking range extender and my router, had to be on the same channel (tech support recommended channel "11"). This certainly seems to defeat the purpose of the router having channel agility (which is there to avoid interference, and provide the best possible service/bandwidth). A bit disturbing. As I am guessing this is a common problem, it should be included in the Quick Set-up Guide. Finally, my router has guest/hotel access which allows a visitor/guest to my home to access the internet without accessing the overall network. The Hawking range extender does not appear to support both (even thought the signal is from the same router). Also annoying.

Setup sucks, product works great

Fast forward to the end: this product works very well. It's getting there that sucks.

The written instructions are clear, but very simplified. They assume that the software installer they provide will work. But they offer no additional troubleshooting info for those times when the software, your router and this range extender can't get along.

A simple troubleshooting matrix would have allowed me to solve the problem I faced (my router needed to have one setting changed) and I could have avoided an hour on the phone to tech support.

It works great Set up a problem

I was very hesitant reading all the reviews because some people had trouble with the setup on the cd and many people complained about the tech support.
I went through the setup cd and got error message that it didn't work. I tried some of the suggestions that I had read and could not use the setup cd.
I called tech support and the tech came on in about 5 minutes and had to have me do the setup manually like many of the other reviews. Within 5 minutes he had me up and working.
The extender does exactly what it is supposed to do. I now have wireless at the far end of my house and in my back yard.
I definitely would suggest this unit for those who are having wireless problems.
