I'm Happy With It.
It makes
yogurt
. it is simple. I like the large hood so that I am not confined to using the little tiny jars with difficult to clean (but adorable)crevices. I don't add flavors before culturing the yogurt, but it seems like it would work great to mix up one batch of milk and have each child then mix in their own choice of flavor. It keeps the yogurt warm even in my chilly kitchen. I have not noticed any adverse effects from the temp variation, but I use a very large jar. The internal temp of my yogurt stays in the target range, even if the air temp outside the jar is slightly higher.

Relatively good results for a commercial yogurt maker
This is the only

maker
I've ever purchased, so I don't know how good any other ones are. But for what it is supposed to do, it does a pretty good job. The heating seems pretty uneven, though. The bottom of the jars were a lot warmer than the top of the jars, and this uneven heating worried me. Also, my family goes through a LOT of yogurt every week (5 quarts), and this unit doesn't produce in the quantities that I make yogurt in. I've learned that making yogurt in a closed portable cooler works just great.
Here's how I make really delicious and stiff yogurt, 5 quarts at a time:
Materials:
* 6 wide-mouth quart mason jars with lids
* 1 cooler with lid, big enough to hold 6 mason jars, surrounded by a thick towel
* 1 thermometer capable of 115 to 200 degrees F.
* 20 8-oz containers with lids (for individual servings) if desired
* 1 stirring spoon
* 6-quart double boiler setup (a 6-quart pot and an even larger pot work fine)
Ingredients:
* 1 gallon of 1% or 2% milk
* 4 cups of condensed milk
* 5 teaspoons of unflavored gelatin
* 1 sink full of ice water
* 1 cup of yogurt culture (can use plain store-bought yogurt with active cultures)
* fruit preserves or fresh fruit for taste/texture and honey for sweetness (if desired)
Directions:
1) Sterilize 5 mason jars and the 20 containers and lids, either by dishwasher or some other means, such as boiling for 10 minutes
2) Fill 6-quart pot with 1 gallon of milk and the even bigger pot with water. Start heating the milk in the double boiler setup
3) Add 4 cups condensed milk and 5 teaspoons of gelatin. Mix thoroughly
4) Insert thermometer in milk. Wait for milk to reach 200 degrees, stirring occasionally. This takes a LONG time (about 1.25 hours)
5) Shortly before milk reaches 200 degrees, put ice in the sink and fill with water halfway
6) Once milk reaches 200, take pot out of water and immerse in ice water, stirring both the milk and moving the pot around in the cold water at the same time
7) Once milk reaches 115 degrees, remove from ice and fill one quart jar with the warm milk about 2/3 of the way. Add 1 cup of yogurt to that milk and stir until lumps are gone. Return milk/yogurt to the rest of the batch and stir thoroughly.
8) Fill 5 quart jars with milk/yogurt and place in cooler, surrounded by a towel. Place in an area that will not receive vibrations. DO NOT PUT LIDS ON JARS. Close lid of cooler.
9) Fill the remaining quart jar with water, microwave for 2 minutes.
10) Place the lid on the hot water jar, then place in cooler for use as a thermal heat source for incubation period. Replace lid on cooler.
11) Wait at least 4 hours, or longer if you desire a more tart yogurt.
12) Pour fresh warm yogurt into 8-oz containers (or place lids on quart jars and place in refrigerator). You may add a dollop of fresh fruit/preserves and a splash of honey in the bottom of each container if desired. Place containers in refrigerator. Wait until cold. Enjoy!

Yogurt
Maker
is exactly what I was looking for. My first two batches of yogurt have been perfect. I use the taller cover so I can make my yogurt in three 32 ounce mason jars. I just followed the instructions and it turned out great yogurt. The yogurt has a good texture and wonderful flavor. I have used other yogurt makers in the past, however; I found using the multiple small jars/cups was bothersome. It's so much easier to use the larger jars.

Homemade yogurt
This is a wonderful machine for making homemade
yogurt
. Makes delicious thick yogurt when you follow the directions. I forgot the powdered milk once, produced lot of whey (the liquid drainage) with a smaller amount thick yogurt. This machine is neat in that it allows you to make large or small quanities of yogurt, and the timing on it is true to the directions. I use three one quart jars in mine and it works well, one regurlar quart jar, two other quart jars saved from food purchased in jars,they are a bit smaller. Three quart canning jars are hard to fit in the black tray and have the large dome fit properly. I love this machine and recommend it highly to family and friends. If you like yogurt, you will love homemade yogurt!

Made my own for years in pot. Wanted simple and smaller quantity. Shopped around and found this seemed what I wanted. Good marketing. Contact me at a later date.
