Where has this been for the last 10 years of my life!!??

As my title states, this stand has made all of the difference in the world between effectively reading and understand and just reading. Since most of the books that I read tend to be technically oriented, this stand makes it perfect to easily track and read what i'm doing, take notes, highlight, etc. and do work necessary on the computer to more quickly and accurately understand the concepts that I read and learn. I've found I'm so much more efficient with this, that I finally feel like I've found that missing piece to the puzzle. 5 Stars, excellent quality, albeit it's just MDF. This will make your life easier. Highly Recommended.

Great desktop bookstand

I have gone through a lot of book stands. I was using them since the late 90's when Amazon weren't selling them yet. My very first was the Fellowes plastic book stand. It was designed to be portable which was available from Office Depot. Fellowes was flimsy and could not take heavy books but it was good at being portable. I searched the internet and bought the Atlas heavy duty book stand. This one was a pure desktop book stand, it can be disassembled and taken with you. Atlas book stand was not wide enough. When I place a heavy paperback manual such as the Gliem and Becker CPA books, the outer pages would sag. I placed a wide cardboard at the back of the book to support it. The lip of the Atlas book holder was very deep compared to the Jasmine book stand.

Then Amazon started selling book stands and I found the present book stand. The misgivings I have with this product is that the lip is not deep enough to hold the thickest of books. The back is wide enough to accommodate wide books. There is also the matter of balance. The design is such that the book hangs on the book holder for support. It has not affected me much but if the calibration is not exact, the book would be out of balance. The theme I found with the design of book stands is that it be portable. Jasmine book stand is designed to be portable but it is no very so. Jasmine is a desktop book stand. The nearest competitor to this product is the INP-103 Book Stand (Bookstand / Bookstands / Holder / Cookbook / Music). It is similar but has different clips to hold pages, I don't have experience with the competitor but the clips seems to be better in holding pages since it is out of the way of text. I already have a book stand and I am content to use this one but the INP-103 Book Stand could be better for your needs.

For portability I would go with the Fellowes Booklift Copyholder,Platinum (21100) book stand. It is not wide enough to hold the outer pages but if you have a hardback, the hardback will support the outer pages plus its cheap. But I will find alternatives.

So far... awesome !!!

Ended up deciding to go back to school in my 40's and found that many of my biology books are
600 and 1200+ pages. I also found that holding these big book with my hands was becoming somewhat
of a distraction.

So decided to jump on the net look for a bookholder, i spent hours over multiple days. Nothing ever seemed quite
right or there was some bad review. A few weeks ago i bought a bookholder from the [...] site, it was about
the same price as the Jasmine bookholder but i neglected to take a close look at the pictures on their site. Their
bookholder was only 7 inches wide and was just way too small for my big books. Apparently, they used to sell a larger
model but discontinued it.

So the search continue and just got Jasmine bookholder yesterday... just awesome! Handles all my large text books
just perfectly. It also has a variety of configurable viewing angles which is very important for avoiding any
glare from your reading lamp.

It is much lighter than i expected. I was expecting it to be heavier being made of wood but seems like its made
of some sort of composite... or its just could be a light weight wood... dont know. But although light, it doesnt feel
like its flimsy, so dont think that. With some reasonable care, it should quite a while.

For $30, its well worth it. Would highly recommend.

I would add one more thing... i went to [...] and bought item #639309, which is called the Mahogany Contour Lap
Desk, its about $30 as well. Just sorta came across it while in the store the other day and thought it might be
a good tool to help study when i'm just sitting on the sofa. Turns out... the jasmine bookholder actually
rests on it quite well with plenty of space to spare. So if you have a favorite reading chair like me plus
have heavy books, then sitting with Contour Lap Desk with the Jasmine book holder on it, may be a good combo
for you as well.

I love this book stand. I have nothing but good things to say about it - no complaints. I've used it for big, heavy books and small paperbacks. It is sturdy and stays in place without roaming around the table/desk. It's also so adjustable that I can't see anyone having a problem. I'd definitely recommend this.
