Cuisinart DCC-2600 Review
I have always purchased the Braun 12
cup
programmable coffeemaker in the past. It was the only coffeemaker that I felt
brew
ed great hot coffee and kept it hot. I found other coffeemakers had a problem brewing coffee that was hot enough in the past. Braun has since had the brilliant idea of no longer manufacturing a 12 cup coffee maker (DUH!-what a great marketing department!).
I searched online and found mostly great reviews of the

Central
14 cup coffeemaker. I decided to give it a try and I am no longer lamenting not being able to find my Braun. This Cuisinart has exceeded my expectations. The coffee is brewed hot and it will be kept at various temperatures of your choice for up to 4 hours. The taste of the coffee is great and there is also a regular and strong brew setting. I highly recommend this coffeemaker. If I had to find one thing that could be improved, it would be how the coffee pot lid snaps on. You have to get it just in the right place but it does snap on. Thank You Cuisinart and Amazon.

Great Coffeemaker
Brew
s fast, great tasting coffee. No problem filling the reservoir, some have complained about awkward filling. The chimes at the end of the brewing cycle are very quiet, apparently the company's response to complaints about the chimes being too loud. We don't use the timer, so can't comment on that...we assume that it works OK. We use paper filters inside the metal basket, just makes cleanup easier. One big plus; the last several coffeemakers we have owned always overflowed the paper filter, the filter would collapse and grounds would get into the brewed coffee. The
Cuisinart
fills within a half inch from the top of the filter, but has never overflowed, and the paper filter has never collapsed. The 14
cup
capacity is a big plus. My only complaint about this Cuisinart (and every other coffeemaker we have owned) is that the coffee splashes upward against the "shower head" when brewing. This makes cleanup difficult. Just wiping the coffee grounds off the "shower head" forces the grounds and sludge into the water outlet holes, and will eventually clog them. It would be great if that piece unfastened from the coffeemaker and could be rinsed under running water to get it clean. Very happy with the product, and would buy it again.

I'll give the list of PROs and CONs and address some issues or worries I had before buying the
Cuisinart
DCC
-
2600
. I've had it for a little over a month now and make coffee daily.
PROS:
1) Looks great. Silver-and-black is classy and elegant.
2) Different strength setting is great. My girlfriend and are like ours strong and the setting to have the water drip slower over the beans makes it nice and full.
3) the
carafe
does what it promises...no dripping! Our last coffee carafe spilled all over if you poured too quickly, and we haven't had a single issue yet.
4) I'm new to the perma-filter and wasn't sure how I'd like it compared to using paper filters (though you can still use those if you want). It's been good. Clean up is very quick.
5) Also, the basket is extremely easy to remove and clean as well. (side note. It's black...which is nice because my last basket was a pain to remove and was white and always seemed dirty because of the coffee stains. No visible stains with black!)
6) The ability to set the coffee pot to turn off with a range of 1-4 hours is nice.
7) Another great feature is the Low-Medium-High temperature knob. I keep it on medium and the coffee always pours out steaming hot. I add a little milk normally and it's the perfect temp to drink (still hot) right away.
)Most coffee makers have the program function now, but it's still nice to be able to set it the night before and wake up to a fresh pot.
CONS: (and they really aren't too serious)
1) the clock is small and has no back-light, making it hard to see. (I am only 29 by the way, so no age isn't why it's hard to read) Plus, it's not angled, so sometimes you have to bend to read it or set the time for programming.
2) The area to pour water in is smaller than I'm used to...BUT that being said I use a water pitcher (that's also a filter) and personally haven't had a problem pouring the water in...it's really a non-issue, just wanted to give the heads-up.
I would most definitely recommend buying this coffee maker. We love it!

Better than the older model
I bought this to replace the older
DCC
-1200 which still worked but was aging and was never thrilled with the things that this one improves upon. The opening for water is larger than its predecessor, but still a bit inconvienient to reach. I'm glad it has a water level indicator on the OUTSIDE now, but also inconveniently on the left SIDE, not the front. It's also a bit annoying that the small amber LED light for "regular" or "bold" strength stays on ALL THE TIME. It would be nice if the light was only on during operation. The lid on the
carafe
is also hard to snap on, but this was true of the older model as well, and takes months to "wear down" so it snaps on easily. Other than these design gripes, it is as well-constructed as the 1200 (which I had for a few years and still worked well--nothing ever broke). Don't believe the review about the
brew
-pause feature not working that said it uses a rubber band--this is false--both the 1200 and this one use a spring on the outer basket which does not break. Makes great coffee which is plenty hot on the lowest carafe temp setting. Perhaps the next model will improve further on design, specifically the location/size of the water opening and locating the water gague on the FRONT.
