probably the best mouse yet

Upgrading from a G5. Most things are improved: The scroll wheel is better designed (arguably the weakest part of the G5), but the buttons for changing resolution is harder to actuate (more fiddly). The larger your desktop resolution, the better you need your mouse. I'm currently running 3200x1200 but I'm about to go to 5760 in width and 1600 in max height. (1600x1200 + 2560x1600 + 1600x1200). If any mouse can handle this kind of setup it's the G9x.

Someone else mentioned ergonomic issues compared to the G5 but I've not had similar problems and I definitely get carpal-tunnel soreness if things aren't right.

No Need to look further for a great gaming mouse

This mouse is outstanding. This mouse can satisfy just about anyone's needs because of all the customizable features. Being able to change the mouse's weight can make all the difference in fps games. If I wasn't a gamer, I'd still want to have it for regular computer usage. Also, the size of it is perfect. Some mouses are too bulky or too small for your hands. Once you use this mouse, trying using another mouse again. You'll notice how well of a fit this mouse is to your hand.

The best wired mouse I ever used

I have used many wired and wireless mice in my life and have been looking for the best solution for my desktop when I found this one. This mouse excels in so many ways that it really cannot be compared to anything I ever used. it fits my hand perfectly and the placement of the buttons could not be any better. The adjustable weight is an excellent idea that is very well executed and gives the user a wide range of weight. The fully adjustable wheel spins very smoothly and also has a stepping setting for those who prefer that mode. I have three screens that I have to span across and the speed and accuracy of this mouse make it effortless. It has built in acceleration that aids in jumping across the screens but is very accurate ans smooth once you slow down to home in on the destination. The sensitivity adjustment on the mouse is very easy to control although i basically set it and forget it most of the time unless I have to do some real precision work.

Great mouse with few drawbacks

For my work I frequently shift between Excel and AutoCAD and a few hours a week I play first person computer games. What I love about this mouse is how well it adapts to these very different tasks.

By far my favorite feature is the mouse's ability to auto-detect what program you are using and automatically adjust to your personal settings. I use the tilt scroll wheel to quickly navigate around the huge spreadsheets I use but when I use AutoCAD I have the tilt disabled so I can click grab without accidentally horizontally scrolling. Without the auto-detect feature I would have returned this mouse as unusable or I would have had to disable the tilt scroll for all applications.

The other pros include the comfort both in form and weight, the responsiveness, the scroll wheel's wonderfully buttery scrolling in freescroll and satisfyingly clicky when freescroll is off, the button location is good, and the accuracy is great.

There are some fairly substantial limitations. Of course the cord is a predictable drawback but sufficiently long to overcome most issue. I wish it had more buttons especially since macro setup is so easy. While auto-detect is my favorite feature is it occasionally glitchy requiring me to open SetPoint for a few seconds. I probably have to do this twice a week. The biggest draw back is the location of the scroll wheel setting button on the underside of the mouse. I hate when in Left 4 Dead 2 I'm boomed with a horde on my ass and I try to scroll to some pills only to realize it's on freescroll forcing me to turn the mouse over to set it to click scroll. What is worse, it is not configurable with autodetect.

Overall this is a superb mouse. I would not trade it back for any of the high end mice I've owned in the past. Highly recommended.

For the gamer, the best yet . . . .

Logitech has hit a home run with the gaming crowd with this product. My daughter is a heavy gamer, WoW and others. This is the first mouse that we have been able to really fit to her hand and adjust to her exact preferences.

The saved profiles are a little hard to set up at first, but once you get them set you can easily switch for each game setting. The weights were familiar to us as everyone in the household has been using the G5 mouse with their desktops. The ability to change the size as well as the weighting really helps make this a "personal" mouse. The laser is exceptional in its tracking and you can adjust the precision on the fly.

One great feature that Logitech has been providing on their upper end mice is the braided cord. It really is resistant to wear, and gives a better feel to the mouse.

One warning, the Logitech software is necessary to program the profiles on the mouse to start. If you are using certain monitor software from HP, it blocks the Logitech software. We just unloaded the HP software as it didn't really do much.

Is this mouse worth the money? To my daughter the gamer, yes. For me, no, as I am not a heavy gamer. The prior model G9 has all the same features with a slightly lower dpi laser, so it is a better deal for the bargain hunters. For everyday use I prefer the G5.
