Good netbook for most users

I purchased the EEEPC1000HE in April 2009 and have been using it as my primary computer since then. I typically use it for internet browsing and Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel and Outlook. Upgrading the memory with the Crucial 2GB 667 Mhz CT25664AC667 was very easy. The small screen size is not an issue for most situations unless you encounter web pages that do not resize automatically. I like the fact that you can open links as a new window or as a new tab in the same window.

It boots up quickly especially compared to my old laptop with XP and handles multi-tasking very well. The WLAN and bluetooth also seem to work very well. I have a Linksys 2.4GHz wireless access point router and have not encountered any problems so far. I often use my bluetooth headphones with the netbook, and it pairs and connects without any issues. I have also paired a bluetooth mouse without any issues.

I like the ease of being able to change configurations like screen resolution/brightness, volume control, etc. using the function keys. The multi-finger touch pad control works well except that it can be too sensitive at times, but you can change the sensitivity settings. The keyboard is fine for me, but I have small fingers. My primary complaints are the smaller right SHIFT key and the feet on the bottom of the netbook which can make it uncomfortable to use in your lap for long periods of time.

I have used the system recovery partition and it works as advertised. I was able to restore my netbook without too much headache. This was not a huge issue for me since I did not have to re-install very many drivers/applications. The battery life has been very good and provides enough juice so I can work on it all day.

I think this netbook is a good value for the money given what you get, and you do not have to be a power user to figure out how to use it.

Outstanding Value

I wanted a small and light netbook for when I travel, and this model really works for me. The networking options are great with the 802.11N wireless which I can normally connect to at 130 Mb. I like it alot.

Although this netbook has proven to be pretty fast, the trackpad buttons are ridiculously tight and difficult to push. I read another review before I purchased this item that said the same thing. I was hoping it would get better, but after two months, it has not improved at all.

Superb Value for Money

Great value for money and really easy to use notebook.

Pluses going for this-

Easy to upgrade the memory without invalidating your warranty
Fantastic battery life - 4-12hours depending on usage, with the latest bios firmware
Easy upgrade of firmware
Includes restore discs which a lot of other notebooks don't
Includes a pretty nice case
Lots of USB ports and a media drive
Touchpad works really well and lots of nice gestures
Bright screen and good resolution, also higher resolutions available if your outputting the graphics
Not a lot of bloat software

Cons -

No S-video or HDMI out, but for the price point it's to be expected
Right shift key is still a little weedy
Little wide at the base because of the battery
Driver updates aren't always found on the Asus site so you've got to go searching

Very well built, very nice netbook. I bought this netbook back in March 09 and it does everything i expect it to do. Perfect for taking with me back and forth to school. The wireless N works perfectly and I am always receiving wireless signals at school, starbucks, and other hot spots. I would reccommend this netbook to anyone who wants something portable to take to work or school. Every program installs easily and the Atom N280 performs most tasks pretty well. Only reason why I didnt give this 5 stars is the HD playback. It plays every media aspect well but HD videos. Sometimes it will lag with the audio in the HD videos. Seems like the cpu and gpu on the netbook isnt tough enough to handle HD videos.
