Channel Master CM-7000 DTA converter

This converter was easy to install. Started to function right after hookup and programming. Very good reception and image. The only negative I found is a program guide which does not allow you to check items ahead of time.

Excellent reception from a not-so-pretty box

The Channel Master CM-7000 may not be the sleekest converter box out there, but you can't beat the options and the reception it provides. We have cable, so I bought this box as a backup -- in case we'd lose cable service or terminate the contract; however, since it picks up so many local channels (more than I realized existed & some not offered through cable), I left it connected to one of my older TVs on the S-VHS port. The tuner on this thing is amazing. With just a coax cable hooked to the input (acting as an antenna on its own), this converter receives more channels than my $1500 Pioneer LCD, hooked up to a small antenna. Picture clarity is great, and the on-screen programming guide is a nice extra. For the price, you can't beat this converter box.

CM-7000 + 40" antenna = reception over 60 hilly miles in MO

I don't know if it is the ability of the CM-7000 to receive signals or my little 40" U-75R antenna from radio shack or if it's just a great combination, but I am getting all uhf channels at 100 per cent. Our one vhf channel, KOLR10, is at 50 to 90 per cent depending on the time of the day or the weather. Our farm is located in the Missouri ozark hills between the towns of Salem and Licking which is over 60 miles from the broadcast towers. I am using the Winegard AP-8700 pre amplifier which I purchased from Amazon along with an FM trap provided by KOLR10 for free. The antenna sits about 12 inches above the gutters on the roof. I did the research and DH mounted my antenna and ran my cables. The winegard preamp has an FM trap but we don't know how to tune it and I think you have to have special tools to do so but you can get one already tuned for specific channels from your local broadcast company if you ask. So if anyone is reading this review that lives in our area, I hope you have as good of luck with the CM-7000 as we are having. Also, check out the neat little $35 U-75R antenna. I also like the ability of this converter box to show what programs will be airing, I think it's over a 4 hour period.
