The sony xbr model i bought is worth the extra money for the sound which is quite a step up from the base model. I may not hook it up to a seperate sound system, it sounds that good. The picture is fantastic with monster cables as hook ups to digital cable box. I got mine for $1500.00 as a floor model.

The best 32" out there, but too expensive

First let me say that I absolutely love this tv. I've had it for 7 days now, and though I haven't gotten the Video Essentials disc to fine tune it yet, it is still amazing. I did lots of comparison shopping and, like most folks, it came down to the superflat Panasonic and this one. They are similiar in many ways, and I do wish that this one had some things that the Panasonic did, I went with this one anyway. I am picky about my home theater setup so I demanded a lot, and got it.

Pros: GREAT picture, great sound (in my opinion- some say it is too weak w/10 watts per channel, but I think it is fine.), all the right inputs, GREAT remote and menu, and just plain cool looking.

Cons: PRICE! (I know this is supposedly the best of the bunch at 32", but come on! And the 2 models higher than this only really add PIP and XBR and they cost plenty more.) Did have to put the tilt control to +1 to even out the picture (thank God that is an option and we don't have to take it for repair!) I did notice when I played the "Tarzan" dvd that on the main menu there is a blue spot in the upper left hand corner- I have heard of this in previous postings and will have to call Sony about it, but that's not enough to make me want to take it back. Last thing, it is HEAVY. With the box it's close to 200 pounds so have a strong back or 2 people doing the moving.

So in closing, this is in my opinion the BEST 32" on the market- if you love Sony like me, and have the money it is definitely worth it.

Best TV I ever bought...

This is going to be the base component in my home theatresystem, and I look forward to a lot of "movie nights" at myhouse, now that I have the coolest flat screen TV out of any of my friends! The sounds could have been better, but there's only so much they can do when they build the speakers directly into the set, so if you are picky about sound you should spend the extra $399 and pick up a sony home theatre system -- I know I am shortly. Anyway, in closing -- this TV has a perfectly flat screen, and it is quality! (185 pounds of quality). Get the setup and delivery if you buy it, and consider purchasing the matching TV stand also since it is very heavy and move cheap entertainment centers won't support it. This is the same trinitron technology that I've had in my PC's computer monitor for the last 5 years, and the picture has not degraded 1 bit in those five years. To protect my investment, I did buy the 4 year on site service plan from Best Buy for $119, because I figured that if it ever breaks, it's too heavy to carry in for repairs -- so I'm set to have someone come to my home and repair it (even though I know Sony is quality, and I've never had a single 1 of their products break before!)

Software Engineer

I am really a fan of Flat Screen TVs. This is the best TV I've ever seen. Just Perfect for the person like me , living in two bed room apartment and the size of the living room is 15 * 13 feet. Only worried about the weight. 200 Pound monster ! Cool thing about Amazon is that, it has the lowest price compare to all the other "OnRoad" stores or any websites.

I was a fan of Flat screen TV but now became a fan of AMAZON too... GREAT saving for me...

This tv is for afficionados. Truly enjoy the quality of the picture and sound. I have seen that some people did not think that the sound was as good as they had hoped for, but these speakers are built-in. If you spent the money for this then I guess that you will also go out and buy a sound system for it as well. It did take me a few days to get each of the different picture settings to my liking, worth the effort. I was not particularly impressed with the picture until I had them adjusted. I searched around for quite a while before I bought this tv and the verdict was close. Panasonic Superflat-vs-Wega.Wega won on two accounts: It is a better unit on several points...

Sony's latest innovation in television is the WEGA FD Trinitron picture tube, which is 11 times flatter than any CRT to precede it. This new technology ensures that you'll get a superior picture performance on this 32-inch TV, which is packed with advanced features. This unit uses a 3-line digital comb filter that analyzes three TV scanning lines at a time, which results in high resolution, pure colors, and minimum flecks of "noise." Sony has also included velocity modulation scanning, which actually varies the scanning beam speed to render picture transitions accurately. There is also vertical aperture compensation, which sharpens the picture definition and edge detail on the vertical plane, producing sharp horizontal edges.

Sony also delivers strong stereo sound performance on this unit. Auto SRS sound enhancement creates a vivid stereo image, using the principles of human hearing to make the sound appear to come from widely separated speakers. This TV comes with dynamic acoustic chamber speakers, which develop rich, satisfying sound with pinpoint stereo imaging. Sony's tapered enclosures are folded around the back of the picture tube, maximizing output while minimizing bulk. In addition, Sony has included Steady Sound automatic volume control with BBE, which equalizes the volume levels so that there is consistency between programs and commercials.

Concerned parents will appreciate the V-chip parental control feature, which allows parents to lock out programming unsuitable for younger viewers. A unique feature is "Freeze Memo," which allows you to freeze what's on-screen--be it a Web site address or telephone number--so you can write it down.
