musical magic

When you put John Williams, Olympic music, and the Boston Pops together, you get magic.

Two pieces in particular drew me to this album: "Olympic Fanfare and Theme", which I consider one of the most perfect pieces of music ever written; and "The Olympic Spirit", which I heard on TV during the 1988 Olympics. Music-lovers who aren't already familiar with anything else on this album will know both "Bugler's Dream" and the theme from "Chariots of Fire".

With 12 tracks on the album, there is a nice blend of composers and musical styles. There are marches, lyrical pieces, overtures, and even three pieces which include vocals. The dates of composition range from from the 1930's to the late 1990's (this album was recorded in January 1996).

If you love great orchestral music and the spirit of the Olympics, you will appreciate this album.

Good CD

The music you hear on the NBC Olympic broadcasts is pretty much all on this disc.

One problem is that on the O Fortuna track, the volume from 00:23 to 01:38 is really low for some reason. Almost inaudible for that section of the song.

I purchased this for a school assembly. It was exactly what we needed to have an Olympic assembly. The music was perfect!

John Williams, great as usual...

I purchased this CD because my son had it a few years ago and I wanted a copy since he has long left. It was wonderful as I remembered it. It has a couple of dirges on it for which I don't care but in general, the music is inspirational and uplifting.

this one will surprise you!

I'll keep it simple: this album is a collection of classical music belonging to a category commonly referred to as the fanfare. Several pieces were written by the conductor, John Williams, who is famous for movie themes like Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, Memoirs of a Geisha, and many others. It is majestic, inspiring, and beautiful. I have shared it with several friends and they all agree. This music stirs the soul and lifts the heart.
