Great hand blender has lasted over 5 years!

I bought the Immersion Hand Blender with the container over 5 years ago and it it still working very well. It is great to smooth out sauces, even though I purchased it to make my protein shakes.
The main drawback is that it seems to be scratching the sides of the container that I'm blending in.

I used the previous hand blender to mix shakes in large paper cups, but I discovered that this hand blender cuts the sides and bottom of those paper cups.

However, I had to remove the blades from the old unit to clean it; and for this KitchenAid blender, the blades are not removable, and clean pretty easily under warm running water.

So, I'm saying the trade off for having to blend in a sturdy container (and not being able to blend in a paper cup) is a fair trade off for the ease of use and clean up.

The one warning, I strongly suggest that you clean the mixer before the food dries on it. Also, as soon as you clean it, leave it to dry thoroughly before putting it away. I'm sure that one reason this hand blender is lasting so long is because I'm taking good care of it.

You can't go wrong with this hand blender, I've used four different wand style blenders but this blender exceeds them all by a mile. This is my second one, I wore the last one out and tried another cheaper one that barely had enough strength to grind up the ice in my shake, and the button configuration was difficult to use. This one has it all.

I love my KitchenAid immersion blender. It's always my first choice for a bridal shower gift. Be careful when you place the attachment in the dishwasher, though, that it is far away from a heat source. My blender attachment was heat-damaged in my dishwasher (also KitchenAid) and does not easily lock onto the handle anymore. I guess I placed it on the bottom dishwasher rack. Now to use it, I either need to manually hold it in place or fuss with it for a while before it locks onto the handle. Such a pain! The replacement blender attachment is almost $30!! With proper care, it should last for years.
