fun but flimsy. don't sweat accuracy.
My sons enjoyed having this in their room.
Unfortunately they aren't durable. Even hanging from the ceiling which in theory should make them be out of harms way, what really happened was they'd get bonked by toy swords and tossed balls and other hazards of childhood and pretty soon they were broken. Can't tell you how many times I had to glue and tape them back together.
As for it being out of scale and missing the sun, well, yeah. I still think it's pretty good from an educational standpoint. An actual to-scale
solar
system
would not fit in a child's room...either the sun would be the size of your whole house, or Earth would be just a pin point. Even if you don't include Sol, the difference in size between Mercury and Jupiter is just too large to be a reasonable toy while still accurately to scale. And of course the distance from Mercury to Pluto is such that you'd have to put Pluto in your neighbor's house instead of yours. And is Pluto really a planet? Controversy rages on but your kid won't care.

Solar System......excellant gift idea
My 7 year old loved it and loves watching them every night. A lot of people had mentioned that it was hard to tack them up. But in all fairness they do provide the thread and tacks. It took me 15-20 mins to have them up. They indeed looked beautiful at night. I am giving it a 4 only because the "sun" is missing in the whole
system
. I had to make a dummy one myself and also I found it very expensive for what they are providing (9 Plastic glow in the dark balls :-) for $20 ). The stickers in there are very tiny. Had to buy a separate pack with bigger stars.

Perfect for the nursery!
My son is so proud of Damien's new nursery decor that he is about to burst. Thanks for making his son's room what he always wanted it to be like for a first time father.

Thought it would be better
I was a little disappointed w/the stars. You get a sheet of stickers that look like you could've gotten them at a craft store for $3. They aren't like the raised stars you probably have seen before but they do the trick in my son's room. He really likes them. The planets are flimsy but do the trick as well. If i were to do it over again, i would probably buy the planets separately and order the better quality stars.

Awesome planet set!
These planets are sized to scale and accurately colorful. They come with brief great info on each planet, and tell you their relative distance from the sun if you want to hang them as a realistic representation of the
solar
system
. They don't come with a sun, although if it would be in keeping with the other accurate sizing of the planets enclosed, it would require a much larger box, ha.
This kit is astronomical! A glow-in-the-dark
solar
system
is a fun way to experience the wonders of astronomy. Hang the planets from your ceiling and re-create the captivating cosmos right in your bedroom. Includes all 9 planets plus 25 feet of string, 200 glow-in-the-dark adhesive stars and a planetary guide booklet.
