Good stings from the german band

I was never a huge Scorpions fan but I did like them, and the fact is they have many really [...] songs. This collection is one you should own if you like 80's hard rock. The only thing missing is a good live version of Rock you like a Hurricane, but is wishful thinking. Anyway get it and enjoy it.

great band!

I've been trying to replace all my old albums... with CD, and getting the great bands first!

Covers the highly successful 1983-early 1990's era mostly

The Scorpions are of one the finest bands from Germany and is an excellent Rock'N'Roll band. Since their first album was released in 1972 "Lonesome Crow" the band made several albums and was very controversial for their album covers like "Virgin Killer" and had a very metal sound during the 70's. With the arrival of the 80's rock and roll changed and so did Scorpions, the band had a more commercial and mass appealing sound than that of their 70's sound. The 80's are when Scorpions achieved big success and fame ever and it seems that since "Rock You Like A Hurricane" and their famous ballads "Still Loving You" and "Wind of Change" they've almost always been associated with the glammier 80's sound rather than that of their heavier roots. Not that there is anything wrong with the music they came out with during this time, I find it to be very enjoyable and many songs of that time among the band's best works but it seems like this compilation "Bad For Good" ignores almost entirely the 1970's material in favor of the more successful 80's material. Scorpions have a few compilation albums out there and "Bad For Good" form 2002 is part of the more popular ones.

The hits are here, the songs that were played on radio and MTV are mostly here. The only 70's song on "Bad For Good" is "Loving You Sunday Morning" the rest is all post 1983. There isn't much to say really every song you'd expect is here; "Rock You Like A Hurricane", "Still Loving You", "Big City Nights", "Still Loving You", "Wind of Change" and others, there aren't any surprises at all. There are two new songs the title track and "Cause I Love You", I think they're both good Scorpions songs but personally I prefer "Bad For Good" the title-track.

If you're looking for a collection of their 80's and early 90's hit, their most successful era then this should be what you're looking for. However this compilation is inaccurate in covering their entire career, I feel that if you're a band who's been around for this long the compilations and greatest hits album should represent everything you've done not just a portion of your career and "Bad For Good" doesn't do that. There are better and more comprehensive Scorpions hits collections out there but there are worse as well. In the end if you're especially a fan of their 80's-early 90's style this has pretty much all you need because the best of that era is on this greatest hits album. 3 stars.

Scorpions

This CD is awesome! I listen to it all the time! It brings back so many memories!

Sure they're big, dumb, and obvious, but weren't the Ramones? Isn't Britney? (Especially Britney!) It is, after all, no mean feat to forge a bona fide rock stereotype, let alone become a self-perpetuating parody of said cliché in the bargain. Fashions may come and go, but the Scorpions still "Rock You Like a Hurricane"--and now at sporting events the nation over, no less. The material here leans heavily on the Hanover band's '80s prime, a period when they burnished their melodic pop-metal tack--if not their traditional spandex couture--all the way to the top of the charts, capping a decade of journeyman hard-rocking. There isn't much here from their formative '70s period (with the exception of Animal Magnetism's metal-shuffle "The Zoo"), but proto-power ballads like "No One Like You" and "Still Loving You," and hook-filled, power chord pomp like "Big City Nights" helped pave the way for the rise of the glam metal of Poison and G'N'R in the late '80s--and hey, thanks for that. That hard-pop sense also comes to fore on an '89 cover of the Who's "I Can't Explain" and a pair of undeniably consistent new recordings, the title track and "Cause I Love You." Scorpions über alles! --Jerry McCulley
