Fantastic and educational

Newsies is one of the best movies and CD's I know of for older elementary aged children. It is about the youth labor movement and how the newsboys of New York City organized against the massive newspaper publishing machine and won. It is inspirational, funny, filled with great characters and teaches kids a huge history lesson without their ever knowing it. Not to mention, it is one of the few films I have ever seen with a nearly all boy cast who can all dance and it stars Christian Bale. I teach 4th grade and every year when we are studying child labor laws, I use this film and the accompanying CD. It is always an all time favorite.

great spirited music

I think the music on this cd is highly unique even for a musical. Energetic and/or Inspirational are the keywords, for most of the songs, that is. A couple of them are very mellow. The highly visible theme focuses on people stepping up and uniting themselves to overcome injustices. Achieving your dreams is perhaps another theme. Of course there may more themes but we'll leave that up to opinion. I believe most of the singing is done my male voices since the newsies are males in the movie, perhaps one of the unique things about this. Their voices are excellent and they harmonize so well for a perhaps somewhat large choir of its kind. They sound very good in my opinion and have a unique appeal. I think that about sums it up.

Newsies Rock

Newsies rock, at least according to my granddaughter. This product arrived on time, and in good shape. I have a happy child, and that's what counts. If you have a grandchild who's dizzy for Disney, you can't go wrong with this musical movie.

Seize the Day!

And buy the Newsies soundtrack! With middle school girls falling for newsie caps and dance moves (even on up through college!), the songs carry well over half the fun of the movie. While it's great to have the DVD to watch for hours on end, you need something for the car, the iPod, or . . . well, you name it. If you like the movie, you'll like the soundtrack. If you don't like the movie--well, honestly, what were you expecting? The soundtrack really won't change a whole lot from what you heard in the first place.
