Excellent!

Upgraded to latest Documents to Go 4 including Add-on kit last week. Have always been impressed with the main product, but the add-on kit is excellent. The mail sync (we use Lotus Notes) and the handling of attachments on my Palm M505 is the best I have tried - smooth, reliable, hassle free, straightforward to use.

Makes your PDA useful.

This software renders your Palm Pilot far more useful. You can deal with text documents and spreadsheets on your PDA with this.

A must have item.

Print Word Documents Directly to IR Capable Printers

As a heavy word processing user on my Palm via Documents to Go (please see my reviews for Docs To Go 3.0 elsewhere on Amazon), I was happy to upgrade to the newest version, 4.0, as soon as it came out.

I was even happier to discover (after visiting the DataViz website) that accessory programs -- Docs To Print and IR Print, both available from doctoprint.irprint.com -- would enable me to print MS Word documents from my Palm directly to any number of IR (infrared) capable printers from HP, Canon and Sipix (with no PC or cables necessary).

I now own a HP DeskJet 990Cse, Canon BJC-55 and Sipix A6 printer, all of which allow me to print directly from my Palm, the latter two of which are portable.

I carry the little Sipix A6 printer (which uses A6 size thermal paper) in my briefcase. I take the Canon BJC-55 (ink jet, letter size) printer with me on business trips. And I've placed a second HP DeskJet 990Cse printer elsewhere in my house where I print from my Palm -- without the use of a PC.

As we all know, with its relatively small screen, performing word processing on one's Palm can sometimes be difficult. Being able to print a hard copy -- anywhere you might need it -- is thus truly a godsend.

With Docs To Go 4.0 (and Docs To Print and IR Print), and with the IR capable printers listed above, I can now word process -- and print -- anywhere in my house (or the world) from my Palm. (No PC required.)

While it won't replace the desktop computer any time soon, the handheld PDA is catching up and is becoming rather indispensable. Documents To Go 4.0 Professional makes several popular document formats easily portable and even allows basic editing on the run. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files synch between PDA and multiple computers quickly and completely, and can be viewed on the Palm screen with surprising readability. Users can edit Word and Excel files, though the range of editing options is necessarily more limited than on desktop machines, and some files (especially complex Word documents) are tough to work with.

Installation is pretty simple; like all Palm software, there are several steps, but most users should find themselves synching files shortly. The interface is nearly transparent and the coders took pains to reproduce the look and feel of Microsoft Office. The Acrobat reader is a nice feature, even if the images are stripped to save memory. Despite this, RAM will be a problem for some users, who will undoubtedly have to make some tough decisions about which files to keep on the Palm.

Minor memory and editing problems aside, Documents To Go 4.0 Professional makes on-the-run synching and file-fixing a snap. And while the PDA won't replace the desktop machine anytime soon, the laptop better watch out. --Rob Lightner
